Golden Globes Thread

Interesting. Leo and Clint both get two nominations for lists.

Anyway, the best darma is really weak and I think Good Shepard got ignored. I suppose out of those The Departed is my vote.

As for comedy, I gotta' go for Thank You For Smoking or Little Miss Sunshine. Borat was good but overrated and the other two were better.

What the **** leo for blood diamond. Jesus christ they are determined to give this guy an award this year. He deserves one for the departed but forrest was excellent as well.

I thought Clint Eastwood got three. Isn't he ALSO nominated for best foreign language film for Iwo Jima?

I'm really happy for Leo!:D:up: It would really be a shame if he doesn't win one:mad:

Go Beyonce!:D

The Departed needs to win everything it is nominated for. I haven't seen a lot of the other movies out this year. None of the nominated ones anyway, which I guess makes my vote somewhat biased to a degree.

And Beyonce has no talent. Why she's nominated is stupifying.

I hope Beyonce has a wardobe malfunction. :o

I woudn't go so far as to say she has no talent, alot of new actress/actors aren't experianced enough and do a good job cause they don't know the mistakes alot of actors make. That's why you see 12 year olds being nominated for Oscars.

Affleck deserves the Globe over Nicholson for his performance in Hollywoodland - the best acting performance I saw all year. He became George Reeves.

Even though I haven't seen Hollywoodland, I have to agree. As a huge Nicholson fan, I truly think Frank Costello is the best thing Jack's done since McMurphy. He was incredibly terrifying and deserves the Oscar.

Please. I love Jack, but Frank Costello was the weakest part of The Departed (besides a terrible conclusion to get to the needed ending with the plot device in the elevator scene).

He was over the top, ridiculous and just playing himself if he was out of his mind on crack all the time. A lot of his scenes felt excessive and the ***** in the movie theater was the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a Scorcesse movie, and I'm pretty sure it was Jack's idea.

I'd be more apt to give it to Whalberg, who while he just had a scene chewing part, he played it so well he was the most enjoyable character in a good (if overrated) movie. And that says a lot to stand out that much in a Scorcesse picture.

Personally, I'd give it to either Affleck or Murphy though. A choice I never thought I'd have to make before (the Fleck and Keith Kencade...who woulda' thoguht). But both give excellent strong performances where they are performing characters and just not themselves, which I feel is what Nicholson did though.

So...POTC got tossed in as a comedy...?

As opposed to what? A lot of it is played for laughs. And is there anything that Depp did in that movie that WASN'T played for laughs? Award shows don't think action movies deserve recognition, so POTC is lucky to get what they can.

wow the devil wears prada gets a nom? was that even nom worthy? yeesh the oscars are geting pretty desperate.

I always liked you, man! But suddenly I lost some respect for you. :csad:

Ya I feel the same way. Jack dioesn't play it over the top just so you know...Al Pacino does that.

Well, Pacino is good with over-the-top performances. :)

A.) Prada was a very well received film.

B.) This isn't the Oscars.

Beyonce is definately the lead, Hudson just did so well she's stealing Beyonce's thunder big time.
I'm behind JHud all the way. She's the reason I stopped watching "American Idol" (She goes & that teenage Dean Martin wannabe stays?), her rendition of "And I Am Telling You" (sure to be THE highlight of the film) is outstanding, & I can't stand Beyonce.

I was really surprised to see Leo get two noms, but damn, the guy deserves it. The Departed and Blood Diamond were probably the two best films I've seen this year, and Leo stood out among EVERYONE in those films (not that Nicholson and Hundsou weren't phenomenal as well as many others), but Leo really knocked it out of the park in both performances. I'm presonally happy for the guy because I was one of the few who thought he did a great job in Gangs of New York and people acted like he wasn't even in it.

Yeah, I'd like to remind you of a scene in a little film called "Taxi Driver," where De Niro takes Cybill Shepherd on a date to a porn theater.
