good software for making/burning DVDs?

I've been using Nero, but want to try something else, something I can maybe get a trial version of. Suggestions?

I got video files I want to put on DVD. I'm not worried about "stripping" copyright protection if that's what you mean.

While I'm here, whats the real difference between making a VCD and a DVD?
