Justice Department data show a 60 percent increase over the last five years in government corruption convictions and settlements by its Washington-based public integrity unit. Prosecutions resulted in 84 convictions and settlements in 2005, the data show, compared to 52 in 2001.

I have always said. Both parties are corrupt but the right wingers are much more corrupt. Their policies are aimed at helping the rich, and the rich are aimed at helping the republicans. The main beneficiraries of democrat policies are poor people and middle class people who don't have the financial means to bribe the democrats. the people who benefit from republican policies do have the money and usually republicans raise several times as much money as democrats. The DNC never ever ever ever has as much money as it's GOP counterpart.

Ugh, before you post something claiming REPUBLICANS are the ones mostly guilty of corruption, maybe you should read the entire story first. That linked story says NOTHING about this only being a REPUBLICAN problem. In fact, to the contrary, it says:

"With the Nov. 7 elections looming, prosecutors have moved forward on investigations of three GOP lawmakers in the last month alone. And several Justice Department officials privately hint that even more inquiries - involving Republicans and Democrats alike - may be under way."

BOTH parties have their own LION'S share of corruption. Just because a republican administration is in office and corruption is on the rise over the last five years doesn't mean that ONLY republicans are corrupt in those five years. There ARE still democrats who hold political office in this republican controlled government, ya know. However, it also stands to reason that if there are MORE republicans than democrats in office, then the percentage of corruption will probably be higher in whatever political party dominates the office at the time. Do you really think the same isn't true for democrats when there are more of them in office than republicans?

And also, did you read the part where Bush has HIS OWN LAWYERS cracking down on corruption? I take that to mean that he doesn't care what political party someone is - he wants ALL corruption stopped.

"The aggressive pursuit of Republican lawmakers by Bush administration prosecutors is a sign of the independent streak of career attorneys inside the public integrity unit, said Paul F. Rothstein, a legal and government ethics professor at Georgetown Law School."

So, in summary, your own story kicked you in the a**. Corruption is a problem in ALL political parties - not just "conservatives".

Your thread title is redundant.

"With great power comes great responsibility"-
Nobody want's to be responsible!

Lobbyist's are who dictate which direction of federal government directly effects us all :cmad: (outside of war and criminal prosecutions.)THEY are the Brotherhood of evil mutants...or the Brood

Quit bein distracted by labels disguised as 'polical parties'.
All white people arn't corrupt and evil, neither do those rules follow any race or group. YET if your Rep. :cmad: or Dem. :cmad: or Whig party:cwink: , all these truths go away, and it becomes our side is more competant. Bull shirt.

Boston Tea party part Deux!! We'll all dress up like Abe Lincoln and make our voices heard:cmad: .

Or do nothing... and one of us will be Leo Decaprio and one of us will be that old chick.

Our Government is comparably not that corrupt. In fact we have still some of the lowest corruption ratings ever. States like Virginia and New Mexico have significantly low corruption.

Go to Russia or Mexico if you want corruption. Our corrupt officials actually get exposed in this country. And the media has an excellent track record of making our Government look far worse than it actually is. Not really on purpose though. Corruption sells more tickets than responsibility.
