Why Rich Kids Don’t Stay Rich

I personally find it hilarious when people boast a million dollars...

^So instead of Rolex, you guys get Faux-lex.
What's the point of getting a fake Rolex, other than to pretend you can afford one? :oldrazz: No need for that. I don't even quite understand the point of having a Rolex, I think they're ugly.

I think my family will be on the same pages as yours is in a few years. My dad holds on to money like there's no tomorrow and studies anything and everything about the economy, investing, etc. It's true, though, that if you don't spend much money on silly, useless things, and you invest your money correctly, you can end up with a lot.

My dad's been trying to teach me for a few years how to manage my money. He gave me a turtle account, tried to get me interested in book and magazines dealing with the economy, and even offered to allow me to play the stock market a few times.
We don't really play the stock market - our family made a lot from our last house, but that was mostly from luck. Most of our wealth comes from working hard (making good money) and being smart about not spending it. My parents did open a mutual fund for us when we were really young, and I didn't even know it existed until I was in high school, LOL. It's a good chunk of change, but to be on the safe side, I'm mostly pretending it isn't there so I don't touch it until I REALLY need it.

I'm shocked at how easily people spend money, even for those who have less than I do. My coworker says he has $50 dinners sometimes, and it's like, "What? That's like, 2 weeks worth of food for me!"

To get laid

Long live the estate tax.

The "lucky sperm club" need to give back to society one way or the other.

No woman wants a poor man, unless she's a hippie chick. And even then she needs someone to buy her hemp.

So true. Hell, no woman respects a man without a job that's why I'm constantly busting my ass all the time looking for one.

What get's me is the attitude of some rich kids, they assume they are better due to their money. The money they have and the ££$$££ car that mum and dad bought that they falunt makes me twitch with anger. If they had none of this they would be common as muck.

As above real rich people stay cool.

Yeah, there are definatley some like that, but on teh other hand, there are plenty of non-rich people who instantly hate someone just because they have money, when in fact they are just as hard working and nice as most people.

I know a fairly large amount of wealthy families fomr highschool and I can honestly say that the vast majority of them were actually really nice and didn't let the money go to their head. Sure, they shopped at Neimann Marcus instead of Walmart, butthey didn't think it made them better than people.

Of course there were those people you talked about also that thought they were hot **** too. Thankfully they were in the minority.

I can't speak for all women, but I respect a man with ambition. I can't respect someone who works a 60-hr week at a job he hates, nor can I respect someone who just sits at home watching TV all day. I don't seem very ambitious at first, but I have dreams and aspirations that I manage to (slowly!) fulfill. Anyone I respect has to have dreams and aspirations....and must at least make some move to fulfill them. :oldrazz:

And if you're only looking for a job to impress women, I can't respect you either. :oldrazz:

Because that guy that plans on writing that screenplay or breaking into the music biz still living in his dad's basement is just a heartbeat away from his goal. :o

I want to write movie reviews, and I send my stuff to newspapers and mags all the time but I'm working in IT also, as I know I need a steady supply of income.

Naw, I look for work because unlike some people my age I actually want to work.

Speaking of which; Terry, are they hiring at CDW? Because I have a profile on the site with my resume on it.

In that case, it's time to make some connections or to get some friends together to help you with the music thing. Once you have your stuff, you have to get it out there so other people can see it. Can't depend on Hollywood to make it happen for you, ya know. :oldrazz:

Do you want to write movie reviews, or do you write them? Big difference there. :cwink: Just because your reviews aren't as big as Ebert doesn't mean you aren't a movie reviewer.

I work in molecular biology research, because I like the job, my boss is cool, it's positive income, and I'm too chicken to go freelance with my art. :o

In some cases you can't really depend on anybody.

She said she respects a man with ambition. It doesn't sound like she has any problem with someone "paying their dues" along the way, as long as you're striving for something more.

Personally, I don't know what qualifies as rich, but I would categorize myself as pretty well off currently. I'm under 35, self-employed, with money in the bank to live for a number of years as well as supporting my wife and child, and just getting rolling. No college degree and I come from a (mostly) single parent home of a school teacher. I personally believe that any person of sound mind can create wealth in this Country because I was homeless twice in my early 20's and still persevered.

Dude, I asked you like umpteen times if you wanted me to refer you. :oldrazz:

Yeah, they always hiring.
