I was having a discussion with some friends and this subject came up. The technology is already here and this question goes out to all the parents out there. If it was found to be safe and reasonably priced, would you have a chip either GPS or RFID implanted in your child? It can be removed when they turn 18 or before depending on the parent. Let the debate begin.

What do you mean "almost" here? You can get this for your pets right now. What a horrible idea for human beings, though. :down

I changed it. Why is it so horrible? Do you have children?

I'm working on the child thing. :D And I would never want to implant a chip in my child. The potential for abuse of such a thing by the government or some other agency is just too huge.

As long as the gov't. never makes it mandatory that you have a chip implanted before you can legally buy and sell, I'm all right.

I'm putting chips in all my property. The wife, the dog, the kids, my keychain. Like my granddaddy would say, going whole hog.

Good luck! Do you think the good would out weigh the bad? Consider the lives it would save.

I'd never submit to anything like that; in fact, many believe technology like this to be the "mark of the beast" from the Book of Revelation. Either way, it's definitely NOT something I'd do.

All the pimps will be buying them up for their ah.. employees.

I agree with Jag that it's a horrible idea for human beings, but I also agree with Wilhelm that as long as it's not mandatory, I have nothing against it being available -- what can I say, I'm a capitalist ...

I have a daughter, and I would never, ever, ever think of implanting her with a tracking device. People have had kids for thousands of years with the vanishing rate being rather low overrall.

Its a creepy idea, but it could stop a lot of kidnappings.

until someone figures out a way to hack the signal at which point it becomes a treasure map for pedophiles.

:whatever:

I'll show you the mark of the beast!

*Drops pants*

It also becomes a reason for pedophiles to cut off body parts.
That's exactly what I was thinking.

I think people are gonna do what they do no matter what; having a chip implanted is just another step to take/conquer in getting what they want done. Similar to how a lock doesn't stop a thief breaking in, it just slows them down a bit & is another step for them to take.

Banned user with 1 post? Hah!

But really, If it`s optional and removable why notÉ

I know but still I'm pretty sure I've seen that before to non bot posters :p

also just realized how old the thread was.

Agreed. It's bad enough that people can find you whenever they want through your cell phone. I might get my kid a "security bracelet" that could be traced, but I would want something I could remove on my discretion.
