My interest in Gravity just bombed.

I don't know what it is, but I have a hard time watching any film with George Clooney and help but think "Hey, that's George Clooney."

Michael Clayton, Up In The Air, (insert Clooney film here), he just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I can't wait to see that 20 minute long take. Tracking shots are my kryptonite.

Sandra Bullock is playing the leading character, but you lose interest when George Clooney is cast?

and Clooney will be cheap?
I read an interview with Clooney a few years ago where he basically said he does the Oceans movies for a paycheck, so that he can afford to do the smaller films for no money, or something like that (he was referring to stuff like Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck at the time). So yeah, for this one, he may actually be relatively cheap.

Haha, my thoughts exactly. Anyway, I don't care who's in this - it's Cuaron in space, which means my a** is in the seat already.

She quit adn was replaced by SaBu. The RDJ quit. This was a couple of weeks ago.

I like Clooney, but goddamn, Sandra Bullock... pfft...

I'm meh on Clooney, he has never been a compelling actor to me. Bullock is adorable but she isn't that great of an actor either.

I still have slight interest in the film though because I loved Children of Men.

The reason why I'm okay with Clooney is that, this role it seems was gonna determine if the movie was a go or not. So in other words, I'm just happy that the movie is moving ahead and this casting kinda saved the film. I like Clooney alot, though I prefered Downey.

There's a part of me that wished Charlize Theron could have auditioned. WB and Cuaron picked Bullock RIGHT BEFORE Theron's schedule was clear due to Mad Max 4's delay. :(

From Empire Magazine's interview with Harry Potter producer David Heyman.

What’s next, post-Potter?

I’m doing a TV film with David Hare, and I’ve got Gravity, which we start shooting in May with Alfonso Cuaron, and hopefully I’ve got The Curious Case Of The Dog In The Night Time with Steve Kloves, and I’m just waiting for him to deliver a script. I’ve been waiting for a long time! But I’m hoping that’ll come soon! And then there’ll be other things.
SOURCE

Bullock imo has a bigger dramatic range than people give her credit for but she's never really done anything like this before or worked with a director like Cuaron. And the pairing with George Clooney is going to be interesting.

I wish they would have gotten Julianne Moore or someone like Naomi Watts instead. Bullock does nothing for me.

As I said several pages back WB wanted a box office draw when Jolie bailed which Bullock is and the likes of Moore, Watts or Theron who wasn't even shorlisted aren't.

Yes! Some of my favorite scenes are the long takes from Children of Men. That alone would make me want to at least rent this movie.

imagine if Natascha McElhone got the part and was playing with Clooney together?

;)

Agreed, those shots were full of incredible detail and never felt like they were aestheticized.

I can't wait for this, even if I'm not a huge fan of Bullock. Clooney can be good when his suave and distance can be used for strong purposes (The American).

Update from the producer David Heyman. I'll just summarise it, filming starts at the end of May in UK, there's a lot of soundstage work involved and the movie will not be shot in 3D but it will be post-converted to 3D.

Heyman: I’m doing Gravity with Alfonso Cuaron, which starts the end of May. Which is great. The whole film has been pre-vised and figured out, it’s ****in’ awesome. I mean, unlike anything you’ve seen in space. It’s just great. He’s a privilege to work with—he’s a real visionary.

Are you guys filming in America, London?

Heyman: U.K.

I’m assuming there’s a lot of soundstage work.

Heyman: Yes. A huge amount of soundstage work.

Have you guys talked about doing the project in 3D?

Heyman: Yeah, it will be 3D.

Are you guys filming in 3D?

Heyman: No.

It used to be, people would get very upset when they heard that. But I’ve seen post-conversion that looks really good.

Heyman: And actually, we did some tests. Because this film is being made almost entirely digitally, a huge amount of it’s being made digitally. 3D felt like a really organic—because so much of it’s being done digitally, you can make the 3D in a post process much more easily than if you were shooting all live-action or sitting in a room.

The alice in wonderland approach.
Shooting the live-action footage in 2d and then converting it whereas all the greenscreen stuff/VFX shots will be rendered in 3d from the start.

''But I’ve seen post-conversion that looks really good.''

then he is an idiot if this is hes opinion based on the 3D Titanic reel. Titanic will have over 12 months only for post conversion. and the budget for the 3D will IMO be half Gravity's budget.
if he thinks that he will have enough money and time for titanic 3D then he is an idiot.

2 years after Avatar and Tron they will still do fake 3D. this is an insult.
