90% of a movie in space features CG.

I know the obvious route was to actually send Clooney and Bullock up there, but I suspect the budget may have gone a little over what they were shooting for.

I feel like after Great Expectations, Cuaron hasn't looked like he knows how to use Lubezki's full powers (and yes, I've seen Children of Men). This thing looks quasi-animated and quite removed from the beautiful space cinematography of The Tree of Life. Hopefully the full trailer in HD changes that impression.

You've seen about 7 seconds of footage from a TV commercial with advertisement graphics thrown all over it.

Think about what you're basing your opinion on.

For whatever reason, when news of this project first came to light, I envisioned something a bit more futuristic. Just from my own expectations, the inclusion of the space shuttle just seems kind of odd.

Personally I'm somewhat confused by what is being referred to as "cartoony." Is it because people aren't used to fast camera movements in space scenes?

No, it didn't look photo-realistic to me. Something about the sheen on the surfaces of things and the movement as well.

I totally dig Children of Men, but I also think it's a tad bit overrated around some parts. Still I wouldn't say Cuaron as a director is anywhere near overrated. Looking forward to this; the first trailer will decide just how much.

It seems like 90 % of the whole thing is basically CG, I fear. That short teaser doesnt look great.

God, Alfonso Cuaron is so overrated, he's considered as one of the greatest directors by some, on virtue of Children Of Men (which is overrated as well).

"Children of Men" is indeed awesome, but its his Potter that makes me love him. "Y tu mama tambien" and "A Little Princess" are also very good.

All right, that is a good poster. I was praying it wasn't going to be a behind the back POV shot of Bullock and Clooney facing Earth.

good poster. you can see when a director is involved with tho promo images.

I'm very intrigued by this film. I loved 'Moon' because, despite it's sci-fi basis, it focused more on the isolation of Rockwell's character and explored lots of other themes rather than being an out-and-out sci-fi actioner or whatever. This looks to go down a similar route.

Cue lots of jokes about the gravity of their situation :D

I feel for Sandra Bullock though............ stuck on a bus, stuck on a boat, and now stuck in space.

Throw in The Blind Side, All About Steve, & In Love and War, and you can add "stuck on a bad movie"

Like many of you, I'm eagerly anticipating Alfonso Cuarón's upcoming space drama "Gravity." Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, it promises to be an eye-popping piece of 3D grandeur from an auteur who has already given us some of the most indelible cinematic imagery of his generation.

Everyone's waiting for the first trailer for the film, which should hit sometime soon. But while we wait, let me pass this bit of info along. A source who's seen "Gravity" (and is over the moon about it) tells me that Ed Harris is featured in the role of a mission control voice. It might seem like just a cool bit of casting with a recognizable voice, but it's also a nice ode to one of the actor's Oscar-nominated performances.

In 1995, Harris landed his first Academy Award nomination for Ron Howard's "Apollo 13." In the film, he starred as NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz, who played a key role in bringing the doomed Apollo 13 crew back home safely. He won the Screen Actors Guild Award for his work in the film, but Kevin Spacey bested him at the Oscars with his career-making turn in Bryan Singer's "The Usual Suspects."

Harris is one of only five actors credited on the studio's official credit listing for the film, and indeed, will be but a small part of the movie. The film is largely dominated by Sandra Bullock, who my source says is fantastic (watch for a serious Best Actress push in the fall). The story is episodic, I'm told, with Bullock's character overcoming a new obstacle (after being stranded in space following a space shuttle disaster) and then moving on to the next one. But while it plays on thrilling elements, it ultimately becomes a fairly moving piece.

The real star of the film, the source confides, is the filmmaking itself. The opening 16-minute single take has been written about, but there are apparently a number of these throughout the film, recalling some of the more riveting moments from Cuarón's 2006 film "Children of Men." Some of these takes even become POV shots and it's all very smoothly handled. I'm also told Steven Price's score is very good (Cliff Martinez's work was noted by way of comparison) and the various elements -- visual effects, sound, 3D photography -- amount to an incredible experience.

But the news here is that Harris has joined the cast in a role that will have fans of the actor smiling when a familiar voice flashes on the soundtrack.

Listen for it when "Gravity" hits theaters on October 4.

Ed Harris in mission control is an interesting nod.

He was fantastic as Kranz.

He played a similar 'mission control' role in the Truman Show as well, as the show's creator Christof - who Truman only ever heard as a voice near the end.

Teaser looked great, seems like I'll be making an IMAX trip for this.

The teaser.

My reaction? Wow wow -wee-wah

Something a bit comical seeing Bullock twirling out into space at the end but mostly horrifying.

Beautiful, just a beautiful looking film. A must see for me.

I find it more creepy than comical. You see how vast it is up there and it's overwhelming.
