Are you telling me that cuaron himself came out to introduce.....elysium?

Sounds like it was one of those filmed intros I sometimes see during AMC trailers. It's just...supposed to be followed up by a special preview and not the feature presentation, lol.

That's how it went down because the sneak peak of Gravity was cut out. He was on the screen, proud to be showing a bit of his new film, then it didn't happen.

Very strange.

Looks like the movie lived up to hype and that makes me even more excited! :awesome:

And for the love of all that is holy, can Lubezki finally get an Oscar???

Loving these early reviews.

First Reviews For "Gravity" Arrive

By Garth Franklin Wednesday August 28th 2013 07:42AM
The next two-and-a-half weeks sees three of the year's biggest film festivals set to unfold across the Northern Hemisphere - Venice, Telluride and Toronto.
Things kicked off last night in Venice where Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" had its world premiere to rave reviews from the various outlets in attendance. Here's some select quotes:
"At once the most realistic and beautifully choreographed film ever set in space, Gravity is a thrillingly realized survival story spiked with interludes of breath-catching tension and startling surprise… Smart but not arty, dramatically straightforward but so dazzlingly told as to make it a benchmark in its field." - Todd McCarthy, THR
"Offers in abundance the sort of eye-popping, screen-filling spectacle that demands to be viewed in a theater. Not unlike earlier triumphs of 3D and vfx innovation such as “Avatar” and “Life of Pi,” though conceived along less fantastical, more grimly realistic lines…" - Justin Chang, Variety
"Visceral, knuckle-chewingly tense stuff. The camera floats as weightlessly as its subjects, but the shots (often extended, but always in a way that favors storytelling above showboating) are always clear, and more often than not composed with meaning and artistry." - Oliver Lyttelton, The Playlist
"A genuinely tense and exciting lost-in-space thriller, Alfonso Cuaron’s exhilarating and often spectacular 3-D film is a real pleasure, driven by top-notch lead performance from Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as well as some seriously cool special effects. Despite some lapses into sentimentality, Gravity sustains its simple concept and turns out to be a real audience pleaser." - Mark Adams, Screen
"This is a film that has to be seen on the big screen (and, one would presume, IMAX where possible). Only the canvas of cinema can provide the grandeur, scale and – when it comes to the sound design – the volume to tell such an epic tale…" - John Bleasdale, CineVue
"A visual triumph even if its storytelling is less than sure-footed… The production design is meticulously detailed. The one problem with 'Gravity' is that the plotting never quite matches its visual imagination. There isn’t the same urgency or plausibility here found in JC Chandor’s recent, similarly themed All Is Lost… Even so, this is a film that, at its best, really does induce a sense of wonder" - Geoffrey MacNab, The Independent

I heard that the movie is all done in one long shot, is that true (the trailer attached to The Wolverine was all one long shot). The early reviews that I read say that Sandra Bullock is fantastic in this movie.

Glad to hear some good reviews. So it isn't boring, according to these reviewers.

I'm actually surprised at how brief Gravity is -- only 91 minutes? WB will use that to maximize the number of shows each day, if WOM is good on this.

Really, that seems quite appropriate for the type of movie it is. It could have been even shorter.

Sometimes all you need is 90 mins.

I don't know why some people are so surprised that Gravity is great. This is Alfonso Cuaron that we're talking about. This is the guy that directed Children of Men, one of the greatest movies ever made, and the third Harry Potter, one of the best in the franchise.

These are exactly the reviews I was expecting. I trust in Alfonso Cuaron probably more than any other filmmaker on Earth. Glad it seems that trust remains well-placed. Can't wait. :D

This.

I really wasnt too worried.

Bet Jolie is kicking herself for dropping out.

I like JJ directing Episode VII, he seems like a very good choice and I've liked everything that I've heard so far. My idea would be this:
Episode VII-JJ (gets the ball rolling and sets up the new universe, JJ is good at that).
Episode VIII-David Fincher (darkest film in the trilogy, Fincher worked on ROTJ)
Episode IX-Cuaron (epic finally)

Fincher may have worked on RotJ, and he can definitely work with special effects, but I really don't think he's suited for the directors gig on Star Wars, for many of thesame reason Nolan wouldn't be.
