Half-Life 3 at last?

I'll believe it when I'm playing it.

Like Soapy said, at this point, the only way I'm believing in HL3 is if I'm playing it.

It would certainly be great but I've gotten past the point of actually waiting for more Half-Life to come out. Heck, I barely even remember what was going on plotwise aside from an Aperture Science namedrop.

Not explaned. The ship that found it dissapeared. It was originally suppose to be in the main Halflife 2 game, a map built.

Does Valve fear number 3?
-Half-life, half-life 2, half-life 2 episode 1, half-life 2 episode 2
-Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2
-Portal, Portal 2

Seems like they're in a rush to see number 2 but don't want number 3?

The episodes were suppose to be Halflife 3. It was an experiment with episodic gaming to reduce the development time between releases. They seem to have ditched it pretty fast with the Orange Box, which was an experiment to get people to try out a new IP they wouldn't try by bundling it with established IP's.

half life 3 is like dr. dre detox.....both are myths....never to be released.

DAMN, Half-Life has one of the best storylines in video games, yet it seems like it will never be completed, seems like we'll never know what G-Man really is, unless they're just waiting for the successor of the source engine to release this :D
I can allways hope

I'm pretty confident that there will be another Half-Life game. I don't know when or whether it's HL3 or episode 3. It just makes no sense that Valve would just let it go. Or maybe it's just my wishful thinking..

Sorry in advance if you thought this was bumped with actual solid news. :oldrazz:

Anyway, Gaben was doing an interview on a podcast, and he was asked to give us an update on the progress of Half-Life 3 "Ricochet 2".

Q: “My final question and the question in the back of all your fans’ minds and everyone has been waiting to ask you for a long time: When can we expect the release of 'Ricochet 2'?”

A: “[laughter] In terms of... 'Ricochet 2', we always have this problem that when we talk about things too far in advance, we end up changing our minds as we’re going through and developing stuff, so as we’re thinking through the giant story arc which is 'Ricochet 2', you might get to a point where you’re saying: ‘something is surprising us in a positive way’, and ‘something is surprising us in a negative way’, and, you know, we’d like to be super transparent about the future of 'Ricochet 2'. The problem is we think that the twists and turns that we’re going through would probably drive people more crazy than just being silent about it, until we can be very crisp about what’s happening next.”

Q: “I have a quick followup on… 'Ricochet 2', and whether or not – you were talking about the horizontal structure at Steam and Valve, the fact that people move from project to project – with 'Ricochet 2', have you had people moving off that project, and that’s kind of slowed down that development cycle?”

A: “Uhh, nope! Everybody who was working on 'Ricochet 2' continues to work on 'Ricochet 2'! [laughter]“

I don't really care about Valves titles and even less about Half Life but I deff understand the fan reaction to it, so what is the hold up? Why hasn't valve given those fans the next half life game?

Well, aside from what he said in that part of the interview I posted, and this is just speculation, but I as well as almost everyone else suspect that they worked on Half-Life 2: Episode 3 for a while and then scrapped that, starting over with an entirely new game in Half-Life 3. This is also just speculation, but I think they probably took time out to build a brand new engine that they'll launch with Half-Life 3.

You should really give the Half-Life series a try some time if you haven't. Cool mythology, great characters, great enemies, unparalleled storytelling, fantastic art direction, I could keep going on, but I don't want to shove it down your throat.

like detox by dr dre. half life 3 is a myth.

Half-Life 3 is open world, will release "after 2013" - Valve source
Development has been "very chaotic", next gen release possible

Half-Life 3 is an open world game with RPG elements and will release "after 2013", according to a person "close to Valve".
Picked up by the International Business Times, a Journaldugamer report speaks of frequent "total revisions" for the long-awaited sequel throughout a "very chaotic" development. Apparently, it was once a "pure shooter" before gravitating to puzzle-solving and exploration. The latest incarnation sports an "open-world, quests and NPCs".
The latter bit seems deeply dubious to us - Valve is celebrated for its mastery of the linear shooter campaign - but then again, we live in a world where Spark Unlimited makes Ninja Gaiden titles and the man behind Deus Ex works with Disney. Stranger things have, and probably will, happen. More plausibly, the source claims Half-Life 3 will launch "after 2013", which suggests that it will appear on next generation consoles.
A huge quantity of Half-Life 3 concept artworks leaked earlier this year, revealing snowy environments and exciting Soviet headgear for returning character Alyx Vance. It's believed that the game's long delay could be down to the development of a new Source Engine. Valve's Gabe Newell has said he doesn't want to "drive people crazy" with premature announcements.
Open world Half-Life. Any takers?

Open world RPG?

... Gonna put all my points into crowbar.
