Hamlet 2

I thought the film was damn funny throughout. Although admittedly the final act took it to a whole other level.

Seriously Docker, just go and watch the film. If you have a problem with it after watching the film that is one thing, but I can guarantee that anyone with a brain who had a problem with the film based on the trailers and the fact that there is a song in it called Rock Me Sexy Jesus, would completely change their minds after watching it in context. There really isnt a single joke made about religion. Now Im not saying there isnt a single TASTELESS joke about religion, Im going so far as to say that there isnt a single joke about it. At All. Jesus is in the play, but not in a mocking way, or any sort of disrespectful way. He is in it to show that if Jesus was around today he would have to have come back as some sort of celebrity with washboard abs and amazing looks just to get anyones attention because thats how low our society has fallen.

I keep hearing people like this and seeing the videos on YouTube of people on the streets talking about how offensive the films is (not a single one of them has seen it btw) and keep thinking of the part during the play where the four girls go up to the stage and start praying for the actors but have realized they were wrong about them and that they actually did have good intentions by the end of the song. "They're right. Jesus did kick Satan's ass"

You have talked me into watching it.......when it comes out on dvd. Becuase you didn't come with the name calling like some other people who seem to get upset when the commercials CLEARLY state they were trying to offend people but I'm wrong when I actually am I offended. :whatever: But I'm going to take your word for it and watch it on bootleg. If its good, then i'll either watch it in theaters or buy it on dvd to boost sales.

My god this was brilliant! I have to agree that I thought this was way better than Tropic Thunder. I can't believe more people aren't raving about it.

This has really slipped under the radar. I need to own this, I could watch it a million times and not get bored.

I was told today, very convincingly, that this movie has the best closing line ever.

I'm curious?

I couldn't remember :O
after one of the kids says to Coogan, "It's really exciting being here in New York....It's a lot better than Tuscon", Coogan says "That's the good thing about coming where you came from...no matter where you go for the rest of your life, it's always going to be better than Tuscon".

But I think it really only works once you've seen the film.

Ah gotcha. Definitely planning on seeing this. My procrastination level is at an all time high, so when I don't know.

But I most certianly will.:)

So... basically 2 years later, I finally got around to seeing this film. I know some of the Coogan fans will crucify me (ha!) for this, but he was probably the weakest link in the entire film. I get that his character was supposed to be talentless, off-balance, and annoying to others, but that just made watching him... well, annoying to watch.

There were also a few missteps in terms of the jokes. At the beginning of the movie, he says he's been sober 7 years. There's this scene a little later where the kids spike his drink, and... we saw nothing. From a sip, to him screaming, to him waking up the next morning on the side of the road. Nothing bothers me more in comedy than a joke that misses its own punchline. This movie also stepped on its own punchlines by not giving them time to breathe.

Otherwise, this was a good movie. It had a real, coherent, original plot, and it all came together in the last Act or so. If the jokes were funnier, I would've loved it.
