HBO's 1970s Rock & Roll Series From Scorsese/Winter

Just got around to watching last night's episode. It wasn't as riveting as the first two episodes but it was still solid. I dug the Alice Cooper subplot.

Of course they're going to renew it. It's ****ing Terence Winter, Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger. Who is going to say no to those three?

When its costs $100 million for one season of their show that no one has any interest in watching, you think about that instant renewal. The recent movies they air before the show get better ratings, in the demo and total viewers. Both are under a 800,000 live viewers.

Sure HBO only relies on subscribers but when a fraction of your subscribers are watching, it encourages more people to drop HBO for the months that show airs (no original content in January too!?). Plus you're spending $100 million when that could be spent on 4 different shows that get higher viewership, retain subscribers and attract new ones.

You're going to be looking for new job shortly after you renew Vinyl.

The guillotine scene was hilarious, :p

It's starting to squeeze! :p

The snake scene was hilarious. I had to look up the actor who plays the junior A&R rep because it was driving me crazy as to where I'd seen him before but I couldn't put my finger on it. Turns out he was one of the tributes from the first Hunger Games movie and he's also the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan.

I guess we'll have to see how much the tone changes. :(

Tried to like it. Just too much focus on the wrong things.

This is actually the best possible thing. I actually forgot this show was on after I missed an episode. New blood with a fresh direction is exactly what this show needs. It has so much potential, but I feel like this show is more in love with the music and period than it is of the characters.

cancelled

Vinyl canceled by HBO

HBO is pulling the plug on Vinyl.

The premium network has axed the low-rated period drama, making Vinyl a very rare example of an HBO drama series killed after only one season.

The network said in a statement: “After careful consideration, we have decided not to proceed with a second season of Vinyl. Obviously, this was not an easy decision. We have enormous respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project.

Damn sucks. I fell off of season 1 but was going to give it a chance in season 2.

I'm disappointed but I was surprised that they even renewed it in the first place after the abysmal ratings, so this isn't a huge shock for me. The first season kind of lost momentum for me after a while, but I was still entertained enough to come back for another season. I hope Cannavale finds a new show to headline, he really deserves a hit. I guess I'll just have to depend on Westworld to fill my HBO void while Game of Thrones is in the offseason.

What would make me laugh is if it (very unlikely) got nominated for a bunch of Emmys after HBO preemptively pulled the plug.

Winter bailed, Scorsese has a bunch of other stuff going on, and Jagger is Jagger. They'll be fine.

Didn't they end Boardwalk Empire because of this show?

No, I think it was just time for Boardwalk to end. :(
