What's makes their inclusion random? Are you referring to the older daughter acting out and getting caught with those 2 boys? They were showing Marty's home life and the things he was dealing with.

first the scene with the dolls, and then the scene with the boys. this gives the daughter a recurring arc throughout the show. the fact that it doesnt tie into the plot as a whole makes it random. but whatever....everything else about the show was amazing. i ain't even gonna worry about it. just weird, is all...

Loved that finale. For all the mysteries and all that, the Rust/Marty relationship and the acting by both Woody and McC were still the best things about this series for me. That part where they flipped each other at the hospital gave me so much life. :funny:

Marty's (in front of his family) and Rust' (when talking about his daughter) breakdowns were acting highlights tonight.

Great series finale!

God when Rust shot that fat **** I jumped for joy! So glad they survived!

And agreed about Rust and Marty's friendship and the hospital scene. It's the little stuff that makes a show great.

Anyone else entering the madness from HBO GO? ****ing **** won't work right now and I feel like I'm going to murder the next person I see.

OH GOD I NEED THIS

Early on she recreated the cult rapes with Barbie dolls.

Yeah I remember now. Ehh not really random. Chalk up the doll recreation to her hearing or seeing things on the news or from people in the town. And then the 2 boys really nothing too crazy there. Teenage girl being adventurous and exploring. Not really random.

I love that last scene! Emmy material right there!

Adventurous? She was caught in the middle of a threesome in the back of a car... That's a bit more than "adventurous" when regarding a 15 year old girl.

It's not just that though. The dolls, the drawings she made in school that alarmed her teacher, her adopting the black clothing and withdrawing from her family... It all smacks of some sort of sexual abuse early in her childhood. It's a misdirect to lead us to believe Marty's daughter was involved in some sort of way... But it doesn't necessarily mean nothing happened to her, just that it had nothing to do with the case.

Those were my two favorite scenes tonight.

You don't think a 15 year old girl having sex with two guys in the back of a car is adventurous? Or a way for her to stick it to her parents, or a way for her to feel cool or wanted. Come on man haha.

Adventurous? No. A cry for help? Evidence of past trauma? Definitely. It's a misdirect that Marty's daughter would be involved somehow, but there was something up with her unrelated to that particular case.

Yes, that behavior can merely be adventurous. But in the context of this show, the inclusion of an incident like that among others only to have it go no where, is random.

This may have been one of the best shows on TV, but let's not pretend its incapable of flaws.

That was one of the greatest shows ever. (Yes it will have a second season but only the writer will return)

The lead-up to the showdown with Childress was unbelievably tense. It was actually physically uncomfortable. Which is a good thing. This show knows how to create atmosphere.

Also, Rust Cohle is the baddest of asses. [BLACKOUT]Oh, you're going to stab him directly in the stomach? Well, then he's just going to headbutt the **** out of your face.[/BLACKOUT]

for such a a dark show with two characters going through more downs than ups, i am glad they got a happy ending

i'm gonna miss Marty & Rust next season though. whoever takes lead next season sure have some big shoes to fill

What a epic and amazing show...Will be forever one of the best seasons ever. I was so caught up with Mathew's acting in the end that I was more into his emotions then his speech about Light vs Dark.

What did that all mean by the way?

Obviously the show ended ambigously with the FBI saying that Tuttle family is not involved...I guess if there is a complaint it is there and the writer can expand on this story if he wants in the future. For now, I think the ending was very nice.

That lead up to the bad guy Errol through carcosa was crazy. I guess he is the yellow king right? or was it the [blackout] old man dying in the cabin? [/blackout]

who was that again

The Yellow King was that thing in the cave (Carcosa) made out of sticks, bones and skulls. It was draped in yellow cloths. It was probably something he prayed to and sacrificed his victims to.

Stop whining & crying about the daughter. She was just there to show how Marty wasn't the best father. She didn't recreate the homicide scene. She was just playing homicide like her daddy. She also explained the drawings. Some kids at school bet her to do it. If that isn't enough. The mother explained as well.

There is nothing to wah wah about here. Move on.

Great finale. Loved it.

Amazing. ****ing Amazing. Matthew delivered possibly the greatest performance in TV history.

I was not expecting the ending to be that goddamn touching. ****ing raw emotion. What a triumphant, glorious ending to an outstanding series. This is going down as TV history.

That last scene, man. Jesus.

And to the people who were in it for the mystery... I think it satisfies. They got "their man" like Marty said. Sure, there is a large picture out there with the people involved, but it all goes back to the ending: "Once there was only dark. Ask me, the light is winning."

Marty and Rust definitely added some light to the state with their work. ****ing beautiful.

Damn. The detail of those backgrounds reminded me of The Last of Us. Someone needs to get some awards for set design.

Rust cracked me up with "are we getting engaged?"

[BLACKOUT]So, was Lawnmower Man supernatural? I mean, I figured it was Rust hallucinating, but he took several shots to bring down.[/BLACKOUT]

One hell of an episode all around either way.

He was a big dude with a lot of meat on him. I can buy him running off of adrenaline with the shots taken like that.[/BLACKOUT] The small bit that bothered me in this otherwise fabulous episode was how his voice was supernatural and carried all throughout the lair like some ****ing other worldly being. Sure, it was cool, but I feel like it was very unrealistic. Everything in the language of True Detective has been played straight and that felt a little out there.

Small complaint though, because I am still drowning in drool from the finale. :hubba
