HBO's True Detective

The greatest piece of work I have seen in television or film. The acting by Harrelson and especially McConaughey at the end there will forever be unmatched. Unmatched.

Everything was perfect about this ending and this series. My god. :waa: :hrt:

I dunno, I think that might have been deliberate. Make it ambiguous whether or not things were really supernatural, or not.

What was the deal with the accent change? I found that rather... odd.

This show ended exactly how I wanted it to. Complete magic, from start to finish.

Season 1 of Dexter was my favorite season of any show. True Detective just destroyed it.

Rust literally mainlined the secret truth of the universe. Rust Cohle, ladies and gentlemen.

McConaughey's explanation of the "afterlife" was bone chillingly accurate. After my mom got in a car accident when I was 14 she described that first "layer/level" of darkness almost word for word how Rust did. All the more reason as to why that ending was just perfection for me personally. It truly resonated with me.

That man gave one of the most beautiful performances in those last minutes. If there is any fairness in this world then True Detective should win every single award it will be nominated for in the Emmy's. Even then, it not winning any wouldn't deter a second of my love and appreciation for what I just saw.

Your reply is about the voice? Yeah, my initial interpretation is probably wrong. I didn't even think of that. Maybe that was the beginning of Cohle's trip leading to the big moment. Good call.

The accent only changed once (I think) and that was when he was watching TV. Didn't catch the words being said but it seemed like he was mimicking the TV. Very weird. That actor is crazy good.

Stop whining & crying about the daughter. She was just there to show how Marty wasn't the best father. She didn't recreate the homicide scene. She was just playing homicide like her daddy. She also explained the drawings. Some kids at school bet her to do it. If that isn't enough. The mother explained as well.

Great finale. Loved it.

No one's crying about it. We're just saying it was a loose end. Go back and watch the scene with the dolls, it wasn't about "playing homicide like her daddy". With a show like this, everything means something. They showcased Marty being a crappy dad, the daughters scenes were not part of this.

There is nothing to wah wah about here. Move on.

Feel free to ignore my posts, I'll talk about what I please.

There are a few loose ends. Though, I probably have to give it a second viewing. The Tuddles are still out there, and there might have been others.

They never addressed the deal with that guy in the shack either.

I dunno, I think Dexter's finale was better.

amirite?!?!?

I attributed the dudes voice changes to him being ****ing crazy.

I wonder if the Tuddles will be a recurring issue in the series?

Season 1 of True Detective might have surpassed The Sopranos and Dexter as my favorite first season of any show ever.:up::up: McConaughey was in rare form.

Do we know if season 2 will take place in Louisiana again?
I hope not. I think it would be best if they keep every season self contained. I think it would work out best that way, that is, if there's even going to be a second season.

I hope they move to a completely new locale with a completely new mystery. I don't want them touching this masterpiece.

Definitely hope it's self contained. They can play with subtle themes or connecting visuals, but I think it's best to leave season one alone.

I agree. The location of Louisiana has become a character itself. Choosing a new location and being immersed in it like we were with Louisiana this season, would be awesome.

They stuck the landing for the finale for the most part. I was pretty satisfied, the cult house scene was so damn intense and haunting that it almost felt like a horror film. I loved that emotional ending with Rust and his daughter, this season as a whole reads like a great book, I can't wait to see what they will come up next season.

That Cohle and the show in general could be so pessimistic and dark makes that final optimistic exchange feel like such an earned relief. It's the journey of the two guys escaping the cyclical destruction and emptiness of their lives. The show was very interested in the idea of narrative and how they shape people's existences. Rust goes from living by his cynical, miserable code to discovering that he had been wrong.
