I'm a guitarist/singer-songwriter. I have a butt load of songs recorded with guitar, bass and vocals. I would love to throw some drum tracks into the songs, however I've hit a snag in finding a drum beat program.

Since I've already recorded the songs, I would like to beable to create the drum beats using the songs as a guide (within said drum program), however no drum program I've found (thus far) allows me to import my songs into it.

Are there any?

Yes, I know that there are ways to go around it - but I would rather see if I can do it this way before taking the long and hard road.

Any help?

By the way, I'm stuck to using Audacity to record my stuff - anything better (i'm a poor post-graduate)?

Most drum beat programs stink.

We use CoolEdit Pro, I believe, and it's not that great.

Said programs will definitely give you a "beat;" but it's not something you'd want to show off.

well, i'm looking to create my own beats, not premade ones. Right now I have several samples of different drums (each piece hit only once) and piece it together in Audacity, but itd be better to do in a drum beat program.

On second thought, the programs you desire are out there. However, the are very pricey.

We use CoolEdit to lay down the tracks of everyone. We don't use it for it's beats, in the end.

There's nothing wrong with asking favors, or hiring out.

We had to do it for a bassist.

It might even be cheaper than a program.

why not, uh, i dunno, play it on the drums and record it....crazy suggestion, i know, but...

maybe, because um...I dont own a drum set?

you're a recording musician and you dont know anyone who owns a drumset? well, trust me when i say, if you have any concern over the quality of your music and its final product, you'd be far far far far better off spending your time finding an actual drumset to use rather than finding a program to produce some synthetic bull on a computer.

ah, I see where you are going. Problem is, you are making assumptions. without reading all my posts.

Yes, I DO know people (that is, more then one) who play drums, and have even been in bands with them in the past. However, they are 300 miles away since I have yet to move back home after graduating college (and am not sure if I will).

Moreover, of COURSE I would rather have a real drumset, however I myself am not talented enough on drums, cannot afford a set even if i was, and am not living in a "drums friendly" enviornment right now. Ergo, a drum machine where I can create my own tracks would be fine until the situation changes, and besides, I've heard some damn fine drum tracks down with samplers using actual audio files from real drums. So why not offer some helpful answers to my question, or stop being a putz, hmm? 'preciate it.

oh, and trust me when I say, my music is very important to me, and it is of a very high concern to me.

if you are incapable of producing a good drum track on an actual set of drums, then your attempts at doing so on a computer will be just as dismal.

im telling you, for the sake of your music, FIND SOMEONE who can play drums. that is the best solution to your situation, and your music will benifit from it greatly.

hell, the fact that all the drummers you know live 300 miles away is hardly a problem with todays technology. send them the existing track without the drums. have them record a drum track for it that they can send back to you. its not that hard.

the band postal service produced an entire album of music doing this exact thing. none of the musicians ever met in person during the recording. all interaction, ideas, and music were traded over mail.

Get a drummer. Fake drums on acoustic guitar tracks are gay.

thats not true. I have a good sense of beat and rhythm, its just that my cordination (using my hands and feet to get those beats on a drum set) isnt the best. and i have dabbled with drum machines and come up with some pretty good beats, i'm just looking for better UI.

I am not trying to get popular or make money (well, maybe alittle money, i play some gigs at a local bar every once in a blue moon), my music is almost soley for my own and friends/family enjoyment. My stuff is almost totally acoustic (with some electric guitar riffs/solos thrown in for texture), so aside from only a handful of songs, drums are not truely needed, I just want to hear what it would be like.

trust me, I have been in rock bands, jazz bands and even a blues band in my time, I fully understand and appreciate the fact that nothing beats live instruments. But for this current situation and project, I'm looking to do everything on my own, and yes, with a drum track if need be.

all im saying is, real drums are FAR superior than computer drums. so, you can spend your time finding some b.s. computer program (which may very well not exist) which will do little to augment your music (in fact it may very well be detrimental). or you can spend your time finding a real set of drums to use and/or drummer which will lend itself greatly to the quality of your music. in my opinion, if you have any respect for your music, you will take the time and steps necessary to do whats best for the music...and thats to use real drums.
