(Forgive me if the text is jumbled together here. I am on a mobile phone, and that sometimes happens when posting on message boards.) I have a 2014 Asus laptop with a broken screen. NO PICTURE AT ALL. A local electronics store is selling monitors for $15, far cheaper than taking it in to be repaired. My question: Can I just blindly plug in the monitor and get picture, or is there a long setup process?

Usually Yes - provided the connection is all good, it should duplicate the screen if its your first time allowing you too work off of it.

Do you have a cable to port the laptop to TV?
Make sure you get a good manufacturer, like Samsung, won't take a long to install, just set it to the right AV input.
And a good HDMI cable.

It's pretty easy to do since I use my laptop with an external monitor while at home (easier on the eyes and my laptop monitor is going bad.) You really just need a external video connection cable that is compatible to both your laptop and the monitor you're hooking it to. Once both ends are hooked, your computer may automatically switch to the new screen or you may need to press certain keys to make it go over. Typically it's a combination the FN button and one of the F1-F12 keys. You may need to look up what you computer needs.
