About half an hour ago I just got back from watching a very important documentary concerning the issue of global warming. That documentary is Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" directed by Davis Guggenheim
Now I have based my beleifs and life on centrism and moderation. I beleived that anything could be accomplished, by finding the middle ground. This movie has taught me that while the middle ground may work in most cases, it cannot work in solving every single problem. Originally, I beleived that global warming was both a natural process and a man-problem. That is clearly not the case.
While it is true that global warming is a natural process, the effects of mankind have far outweighed the effects of the Earth's natural warming and cooling cycles.
Al Gore's documentary disproves the misconceptions and misunderstanding about the serious problem of global warming. He does so by providing the facts very clearly. These facts show us that we need to take action to help reduce the problem.
Our government needs to pass legislation to force car companies to improve emissions standards. We need to invest in cleaner technology. We need to take steps that are stated in the Kyoto Protocol (my beleif still stands that we should not ratify the treaty on the basis that it is not tough enough). But ultimately the responsibility falls upon us. We need to take steps ourselves to conserve energy and our resources by doing the most simple of things such as not leaving the lights or television on or not having the water run while brushing your teeth.
To those who have not seen "An Inconvenient Truth," I implore all of you to go see the movie yourselves. So that you can see how problematic this issue is for us.
