Negotiations between the Teamsters Union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have reached an impasse, which could result in another crippling strike as early as August 1, according to entertainment attorney Jonathan Handel, writing in todays (Monday) Hollywood Reporter. A strike by the Teamsters would not only involve some 4,000 drivers, location managers and casting directors, but also certain craft workers, including electricians, who, according to Handel, are being represented by the Teamsters in the talks with the AMPTP. The stalemate, he notes, involves a single issue whether the Teamsters are to receive an annual raise of 2 percent or 3 percent in their new two-year contract. The AMPTP sees such a rase as setting a precedent for future negotiations with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the Screen Actors Guild, the Writers Guild of America, and the Directors Guild of America
