We've heard that Guardians of the Galaxy is going to have a rocking soundtrack of 1970s/1980s tunes, many of which will be played on Star-Lord's old Walkman. As someone with a real fondness for music of that era, I'm actually quite excited about this unconventional choice of soundtrack for a sci-fi comic book movie. So, I thought I'd create a thread to showcase the various songs that we know will be featured in the movie or its marketing, so we can all rock out like Star-Lord to some classic tunes. Feel free to add more tracks as they become known.

First up is the one we all know from that kick-ass first trailer. Say it with me... OOGA-CHAKA OOGA OOGA, OOGA-CHAKA OOGA OOGA...

"Hooked on a Feeling" - Blue Swede

The recent round of set visit reports has given us some insight into more tracks that will be included in the soundtrack. According to IGN, Chris Pratt has played this track so often on his Walkman that he's sick of hearing it:

"Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" - Rupert Holmes

[YT]Fsj2wdFDmLk[/YT]

According to the Yahoo UK set visit, this easy-listening cracker is also on the soundtrack:

"Come and Get Your Love" - Redbone

Another song mentioned by the Yahoo UK set visit:

"Ooh Child" - The Five Stairsteps

This plays in the second trailer. A great addition, as this is one of the coolest songs of all time:

"Spirit in the Sky" - Norman Greenbaum

Here's the thing… Ooh Child is, like, one of my all time favorite songs. It might be a desert island song for me. I can imagine a thousand different scenarios where it would apply to Peter and the Guardians in this movie.

If it's on the soundtrack by the Stairsteps, my heart will expand five thousand sizes with all my love for this movie. Because that song is awesome and goosebump-inducing and I actually get a little teary when I hear it, either this version or the Valerie Carter version.

The article specified it as the Five Stairsteps version. And yes, it's a great song. Maybe it's what Gamora will be listening to at this moment:

Well I love everything on here so far (except Hooked on a Feeling, always been lukewarm about that one) but all of them are tunes from the 70's, early 70's in some cases. So I'm not sure where all this 80's business came from but it doesn't look like that's going to be the case.

Which also means I'm going to be forced to edit my own cut of the movie with a proper 80's soundtrack for giggles.

Good question. I've said 80s as that's what Gunn, Pratt and all those involved with the film have said, but I'd noticed myself that most of what we actually know to be in the film thus far is 70s-era, hence me writing "70s/80s soundtrack." I guess if Quill was abducted from Earth back in the 80s, he might have tracks that were a decade or more old at the time on his Walkman. Maybe there'll be more 80s-era stuff in the final soundtrack.

Im guessing the walkman and the mix tape in it aren't his, they're his moms. She's probably killed around the same time he's abducted, and they're the only thing he has to remind him of her.

iirc it was Gunn himself who mentioned the 80's way back when we first learned about the Walkman. And you may be right as to tracks we haven't heard yet.

Either way, it promises to be something different from the usual orchestral score and that's ok by me.

Like I say, I'll just have to edit my own version with some Night Ranger and Men Without Hats. :awesome:

You may be right.

This one isn't 100% confirmed yet, but there are reports this could be used in [BLACKOUT]the next trailer[/BLACKOUT]. I hope so, as this is one of the coolest songs of all time:

"Spirit in the Sky" - Norman Greenbaum

It's confirmed now! :woot:

I was in Highschool in the mid to late 70's lol Sammy Johns' Chevy van, Three dog nights' Shambala were two I just download again lol

The music in this movie sets such an awesome tone. I am so pumped.

Please, please include a slow motion shot of the team set to The Pina Colada Song.

Is Spirit in the Sky actually in the movie or is it just used for the trailer? Oftentimes movies have trailer music which never appear in the film itself.

Had an idea to do a That 70's show like wallpaper to at some point

With the music selection, this movie is going to be so much like a tasteful version of Heavy Metal. Hell yeah!

I am so excited about that movie. :hubba

Especially because the cool upcoming Soundtrack! That kind of music gives that movie a very interesting touch.

When i saw the first trailer, i was blown away and i thought about, which songs we will see in the movie too...so i made that playlist, downloaded all tracks from amazon and made my own "Starlord Walkman Session CD" :D
The funny thing about it...i used some of the same songs mentioned here in that thread...without reading it :D And the Song from the second trailer.

Here ist the Tracklist:

02. The Equals - Baby come back
03. The Archies - Sugar, Sugar
04. Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie
05. T-Rex - Jeepster
06. The Sweet - Blockbuster
07. George McCrae - Rock your baby
08. Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime
09. The Rubettes - Sugar Baby Love
10. Lobo - I'd love you to want me
11. Shocking Blue - Venus
12. Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the sky
13. Redbone - Come and get your love

I think there are many many possible Songs.
Before i saw the "love" picture of Gamora and Starlord...i mentioned if there is a lovestory in the movie. I choosed the song "I'd love you to want me"...because it fits perfect. She is an alien girl...so she doesn't expact to get Peters Girlfriend. So she listen to that song every day and is sad about it. That would be so cool!

If the Guardians meet the Avengers...it would be awesome if Tony Stark gives Peter an iPod with ACDC Music :-D
What do you think?
