Well, that's semantics...if a channel doesn't follow suit, I don't doubt there will be repercussions for them.

I work for a local station and us along with every station in our market is switching on Feb. 17th anyways. We were all ready for the transition and would lose tens of thousands of dollars to continue running analog until June.

Mostly due to the fact that the converter boxes are backordered right now. So all the people trying to get the boxes are screwed until they make more.

What's funny is probably the majority of the people buying those boxes don't need them.

If you have cable, you don't even need the boxes, right? My parents swear up and down because they have two tv's upstairs that are sharing a connection via a splitter they need the box.

Seriously though this is killing me. Most broadcasters have already switched to DTV and many customers are already spending out of pocket to buy the converter boxes anyway.

Correct. If you are connected up to cable/satellite then you are fine. The thing that gets me is that they've been telling people about this for what...2 years now? And all of a sudden these people are freaking out. That's what they get for waiting till the last minute.

Which is why the boxes are sold out now, people who don't need them think they do and are buying them.
