"Old Town Road" Music Video Director Tackling 'House Party' Remake for New Line

Calmatic, the director behind the music video for "Old Town Road (Remix)," is making the jump to the big screen. He has been tapped by New Line to helm the company’s remake of its 1990 cult comedy House Party, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. LeBron James is producing with his SpringHill Entertainment partner Maverick Carter.

My man Kevin is already in the Uptown Saturday Night remake (also at WB). So chances of him landing a role here is slim.

Watch him have Martian Lawrence's character

I'm actually kind of astonished to see the talent attached to this lol.

Oh man, the original is a 90s classic that hinges on the comedic talents of Kid n Play. I don’t think you can replicate that with anyone else. It would be like remaking Bill & Ted with new actors.

Yeah, they tried a DTV House Party 4.

I unfortunately remember that God awful movie. Yet another sin that evil Chris Stokes committed.

I think it's more than just that. There's entertainment greats all over the place in the original deployed perfectly. Martin Lawrence, George Clinton, John Witherspoon and Robin Harris all have great and memorable scenes. Reginald Hudlin somehow managed to mostly recapture that magic in Boomerang but I just can't see that happening here.

I actually think it looks ok but we’ll see. I probably won’t see it in theaters unless people say it’s worth the money but will definitely watch when it lands on HBO.

I’m shocked that I thought it wasn’t the complete dumpster fire I thought it would be. But yeah man, same.

It wasn't until the end credits bloopers that I realized the actor playing Damon was from Doctor Who. His American accent made me think it was a different actor.
