It will be a white, Jewish, black Malcom X, Hitler, Magneto. This post is terribly written and sound a bit racist. Magneto has always been mirrored to Malcom X while the Professor was Dr. King. Simply two sides/views of the same issue.

I can't see how this movie will work either. The X-Men work best as an ensemble.

Magneto is an interesting character, and he was at his best when he was running the school & the New Mutants.

But I can't see a prequel being all that interesting to the general public. He's not a hero, it's not going to be a popcorn flick and it's not going to appeal to very many people. It's not going to have a happy ending. It's not going to be uplifting. It's likely to tank at the box office and ruin the chances of any other X-film.

Since Ian McKellen is rumored to be part of it, if they did the film from a flashback type of approach, mixing current day and flashbacks, then maybe it might hold more people's interest. But most of Maggie's story had been told in the X-films.

The best direction they could go in X-Men sequels would be having Magneto turn into a quasi-good guy. I'd love to see Magneto in a film like he was in God Loves Man Kills or in Uncanny X-Men 196 when he talks Rachel out of killing the man who had attempted to murder Prof X and Kitty. It was far more interesting when Maggie was in that grey area rather than being a sterotypical supervillain, or why he became what he was.

Now if they did something like Magneto in GLMK (for example, the playground scene in the beginning) and paralleled that to his past, that might be very interesting for X-fans, but I still don't think it's something that Fox would think could be marketed to the general public.

Dead on arrival.

As much as I like Magneto, there doesn't seem to be enough to fill an entire movie. Really, I'd rather see this become a general prequel to the series, that is, the origins of both Magneto and Xavier, and their schism, and possibly the formation of the X-Men.

If they really do their Home work this movie with be great but if they pull it out of their arses it will suck.

The way I see it is Magneto having flash backs on his life while he is getting his powers under control in "the near future".

First flash back at a concentration camp and him having a battle with Nazi soldiers while escaping a death camp. Then meeting Xavier on muir Island and them getting to be good friends.

The a flash back to "the near future again" a new team of The Brother Hood with Avalanche, Blob, toad, Quicksilver, and Pyro. Talking about leaving them to go to Asteriod M to build it.

Then another flash back to the xavier mansion and him helping to build Cerebro and some of the basement. Teenagers Scott, Jean and Dr. McKoy are seen in the danger room. Theres a lot of talk between Xavier and Magneto about the future of Mutants.

The last flash back acures while he is decending to an unknow island about him fighting with the x-men for the first time and how he cripples Xavier in an accident. (Cyclops, Jean, Storm, and Beast since obvioulsy Iceman and Angel weren't introduced until later in the movies.)

Well thats would how I would kind of make it work. your thoughts?:ninja:

I've always heard that it was supposed to take place from the time Mags gets out of the camp and go through his friendship and fall-out with Xavier. We'll get to see him go from one ideal to the other. Sounds pretty cool to me.

thats sweet enough for me! I just can't wait for this one and Wolive to come out. I just wish there is going to be a 4th X in the future after these two.

There is PLENTY of material to fill a movie. Anyone who says otherwise knows very little about Magneto.

What about the X1 prequel that shows Magneto finding and hunting down the 'Dr Death' who herded his family to the gas chamber and his showdown with Xavier who tries to stop him killing this man? What about the scene in the prequel where Magneto himself rescues a very young Cyclops from a mob?

And those are things that aren't even from the comics. Magneto has a rich and deep background - the death of his daughter in a fire, his three mutant children who have rejected him, the work he did with Charles in Israel.

Whether this movie would work simply as a war movie with just a tiny flash of fantasy mutant superpowers is debatable.

This is more than anything an X-Men spin-off and should really be an X-Men Begins showing what happened from the flashback at the start of X1 to the flashback at the start of X3 and then the big event that separated Magneto and Xavier and put them on opposite sides.

I think Magneto's past is very interesting and complex as it is told my Marvel. I would liken his story to that of a tragedy. As for the treatment Fox will give it, that is a huge question mark. It can go either way. Check out Magneto's full history here....

Whatever direction they decide to take with this movie, as long as it has McKellen in it, it should be interesting.

thx dcx for the info, i was looking for that and couldn't find it.

As already been stated, there's plenty of Magneto history that could be used. And McKellen flashbacks seem the way to go. It COULD work. But that's a lot of 'coulds'.
