Greetings all.
Recently, on the tech forums people have had numerous problems with backing up data....recovering older data, etc...

I wanted to hear from Hype! members on how they backup data...where they back it up to...and if they would want someone like myself to write some help files on getting you something to setup a "backup" routine.

Please tell me....I will leave this thread open for some time to hear stories and thoughts and comments.

I actually need to do backups so it would be nice to have something like what is the best way to back up your files.

Time Machine FTW
<3 my iMac

Serious note:
Time Machine is an awesome backup utility that is included with Mac's running OS X:Leopard. You just connect an external HD, tell it what folders you want to backup, and thats it. Every hour it backs up, without you even having to think about it. Has a cool user interface to "go back in time" to retrieve a file you accidentally deleted.

I use the built-in Time Machine application that came with my iMac, MacBook, and MacBook Pro in conjunction with my Time Capsule router to back up data.

I use a 1TB external USB drive for my backup data. Occasionally I'll use "dd" to make a backup image of my main computers HD.

dd if=/dev/sda of=/mnt/usbdrv/drive_image_<date>.iso

Linux FTW.

I have 3 HDD's and I just copy **** all over the place. I'd personally recommend Acronis True Image. It is an awesome program and well worth the money. You make an image disc, copy an image of your current system onto and external. Drek goes bad with your HDD, restore the computer from the image.

if what you need is to back up files of data these uploading sites will help

Temporary but good clever method to backup.

Most people don't have a clue to make backups with images...
Plus...Images are really good more for full backups...not as good for smaller data backup

Whereas that is true. The instructions on the box and manual are literally idiot proof. Not to mention Acronis can do incremental updates to your backed up images.
