Also, what would you people recommend color wise? I couldn't decide, that's why I just got the outline. I'm thinking of just doing it black and gray with a little bit of red, like on the tail feathers or something. Or just doing the whole bird in color. I don't know yet.

Black and gray might seem a bit dull, to me at least. As for color, that's up to you. I personally would at least avoid "solid coloring".

I think your tattoo would look awesome with a mix of bright colors and some nice shading to add some 3-d pop to it.

Yes and no. While phoenixes are usually portrayed as being red, they were always described as being the most beautiful and colorful birds ever.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on doing it solid. In the original picture its based on, it was done in black and gray and it looked great. I'm still undecided though.
