I found an iPod!!

I don't have any credit cards
Debit cards? With the information on a Driver's License, I would be able to order a Credit Card in your name, do you mind if I do that?

I mean, if you lost a Wallet with all that information in it, you probably didn't really want it anyways, right?

Wow your morals are really fuc*ked up..... I really hope you lose something of value in the future

I couldn't read the rest of your post when I got to the line about the holidays because I was too busy laughing

Fine...be a grinch, see if I care. Santa's watching.

Besides, it's just common sense...finding something that you can so easily trace back to the owner but deciding to keep it yourself is wrong all year long.

The fact that this happens during this time of year makes it 10x worse.

Mag have you had an Ipod before?

Seriously, there's something about Ipods, Cell phones, etc...that people who own them attach to them...BIG TIME.

So if you've had one before, you have to know how protective you were of it (I'm assuming 'were' because you wouldn't keep the one that's not yours if you already had one...I'd hope). Everyone who owns one is the same way. The second we misplace it (because that does happen) it becomes a priority to find it because of how much it cost, how much it means to us...

It's not worth it...especially since you found it in the street. That makes the whole thing feel a bit tacky...using someone's hand-me-downs...

Seriously, dude...just trace it and give it back.

Wow, So if you found a sports car with the keys still in it, would you drive off with it?

If you found someone's cell phone, would you attempt to return it to the owner?

Or someone's wallet? Or someone's anything?

Just because you find something, doesn't mean you can keep it. You have to go about the steps to try and give it back, if you try, then fail at it, it's ok to keep it.

All three of these items are totally different from an iPod. A car must be registered to it's owner and if you use the keys to drive off with it, the owner will call the police and if you parked it illegally or pulled over, the car will show up as stolen.

A cell phone would have plenty of contacts you could call to find the owner, plus the owner would probably call his cell company and have the phone service disconnected or call the phone him/herself.

A wallet has an ID in it to easily find the owner, plus credit cards would be cancelled immediately.

With an iPod it would be really, really hard to find the owner if it's not registered and I doubt many people would register it, especially someone who isn't even responsible to hang onto it in the first place. My iPod isn't registered and if I lost it I wouldn't expect to find it. Over the summer I left a pair of sunglasses in a locker at my gym, didn't realize they were gone until the next day, went to try and see if they were still there, nope. Realized it was my fault they were gone, didn't deserve to have them, if I'm gonna leave them lying around like that.

It would be annoying, but that's the risk I would run if I can't keep track of my possessions.

Did you pay for your sunglasses?

So, how do you connect the ipod to iTunes? You have to register it to use iTunes, how did you do that?

Are you sure you have to register it to use iTunes?

As far as I know, I have an iphone, you have to connect it to itunes to put music and videos on it, that itunes account is registered to someone.

The instant I plugged my Ipod in the first time, Itunes Uploaded and made an account with both the serial number on my Ipod and the IP address from my computer...Then when I wanted to make purchases, I had to register both my e-mail and my credit card number.

They keep good record...good enough for the owner of the Ipod in question to be found.

It's not like it's hard, so there's really not excuse for you not to return it...because keeping it just makes you look like an ass.

Do as you will, but...still...keeping it paints you in a pretty awful light, IMO.

That's true! The moment he tries to connect it to itunes he will have to authorize his computer! That's an easy way for the owner to find out who has it and report it stolen/lost.

Yep...

So not only is the Ipod a cruddy 'hand-me-down' found in the street...but Mags can't even use it properly without the owner catching on and tracking him down to get it back.

So it's pretty much useless to him...and thusly, he should just save the owner the grief and himself the trouble...and return it.

Ok, Neto. The peanut gallery spake. Guess you'll have to put it back where you found it :hehe:

So your key argument is that they didn't care enough about it because they lost it? How about this hypothetical, then? He was carrying the iPod in his jacket pocket, when he got the phone call that his wife went into labor. In the midst of running to get a cab and meet his wife at the hospital, the iPod fell out. Is he still undeserving of having an iPod, either way finding something like that and not reporting it is a very *****ey thing to do. It makes you no better than a common thief.

I've been reading all your comments and I gotta say some of you ppl are taking this too seriously. It's just a ****ing ipod. I have looked up the serial and its not registered. It doesnt even have the name of the person who owns it when I hook it up to my comp. I still didn't get iTunes so who knows.

I never owned an ipod cuz I never could afford it. I work 2 jobs and all my money pretty much goes into taking care of my daughter. You make it sound like I'm a horrible monster for taking something I found on the street. I was basically picking up garbage. Don't try and compare an ipod to a wallet or a ****ing BMW. Ipods aren't a necessity.

One time at work I found a purse in the parking lot. I looked inside for an ID and went to costumer service. I went on the PA system and said the ladies name telling her I found her purse. Two minutes later she came to claim it and was ecstatic. I didn't take any cash or items inside. In the end she just said thank you.

Yesterday I went to this family thing at church. I've told some of the ppl there that I found an ipod and EVERYONE I told thought it was cool. Even the pastor said 'hey thats awesome'. Not one person asked me about giving it back. And these are Christians.

A few yrs ago I was jumped coming home from work, on pay day, and they took my wallet along with $300, social security card, Driver's license, baby pictures and credit card. 3 yrs ago my apartment was robbed and they took my ****ing computer that had alot of personal photos and files. I've lost alot of things in the past and now I've learned my lesson to be more mindful of my ****. This is the first time finding something and i think I deserve it. I'm not trying to justify keeping an ipod because of the things that happened to me in the past. I just honestly don't give a **** about the person who lost it. It's his lost, my gain. People lose things all the time but its not everyday something they find something good.

Oh, because you had bad luck in the past, and a couple of Christians says it's ok, you are just going to keep it?

Good luck with it.

I believe the correct thing to do is do your best to get it back to the owner. But, if that's what your morals are telling you to do, keep it.

Its also not every day you lose something that expensive. As people before have said, turning it into the police is the moral thing to do, and if its not claimed then you can keep it without having your conscience nag you. It doesn't sound like you have one of those, though. I know I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't try my hardest to get something lost back to the owner, but I guess thats the problem with having an angel on one's shoulder. The fact that you have to try to justify keeping it speaks volumes.

I'm the same way, I work for what I have, if I come across something that's not mine, I turn it in. I would feel guilty if I had someone else's stuff, but, that's me.

I can't tell anyone else how to live, but I respect one's right to property, I understand that someone probably had to save for a couple of weeks to be able to buy one, I understand that maybe it was a gift from someone.

Whatever though, nothing we say or do would make him change his mind, he'll justify it somehow. I just rather keep me integrity.

look we're all gonna think we are right and the other person is wrong. It's never gonna end.

I mean seriously, what can i do? Its not registered, no engravings, no contact info. You honestly think I have the time to go out and make fliers or spend money to put out an ad? You know how many people are gonna claim its theirs?

and give it to the cops? Thats the dumbest **** I've ever heard. They're gonna end up using it.

face theres no way to find the owner. thats why I'm keeping it.

Neither is a BMW or wallet. Nothing except food, water, and clothes are necessities.

I'm not trying to justify keeping an ipod because of the things that happened to me in the past.
You just did.

Neto, I only have one thing to say to you: never, ever, keep your social security card in your wallet.
