I found an iPod!!

Neto, I only have one thing to say to you: never, ever, keep your social security card in your wallet.

yea duh. But I needed it that day hence why it was in my wallet.

but seriously, if there was any real reasonable way to give it back i would. If I found it in a store or a bus I'd give it to customer service. But this was on the goddamn street where cars ran over it. I picked up trash and kept. Thats all it is.

Its also not every day you lose something that expensive. As people before have said, turning it into the police is the moral thing to do, and if its not claimed then you can keep it without having your conscience nag you. It doesn't sound like you have one of those, though. I know I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't try my hardest to get something lost back to the owner, but I guess thats the problem with having an angel on one's shoulder. The fact that you have to try to justify keeping it speaks volumes.

Are you seriously reading what you just wrote? Give me a ****ing break. An angel on my shoulder? Jesus, holy ****.:whatever:

I've been reading all your comments and I gotta say some of you ppl are taking this too seriously. It's just a ****ing ipod. I have looked up the serial and its not registered. It doesnt even have the name of the person who owns it when I hook it up to my comp. I still didn't get iTunes so who knows.

I never owned an ipod cuz I never could afford it. I work 2 jobs and all my money pretty much goes into taking care of my daughter. You make it sound like I'm a horrible monster for taking something I found on the street. I was basically picking up garbage. Don't try and compare an ipod to a wallet or a ****ing BMW. Ipods aren't a necessity.

One time at work I found a purse in the parking lot. I looked inside for an ID and went to costumer service. I went on the PA system and said the ladies name telling her I found her purse. Two minutes later she came to claim it and was ecstatic. I didn't take any cash or items inside. In the end she just said thank you.

Yesterday I went to this family thing at church. I've told some of the ppl there that I found an ipod and EVERYONE I told thought it was cool. Even the pastor said 'hey thats awesome'. Not one person asked me about giving it back. And these are Christians.

A few yrs ago I was jumped coming home from work, on pay day, and they took my wallet along with $300, social security card, Driver's license, baby pictures and credit card. 3 yrs ago my apartment was robbed and they took my ****ing computer that had alot of personal photos and files. I've lost alot of things in the past and now I've learned my lesson to be more mindful of my ****. This is the first time finding something and i think I deserve it. I'm not trying to justify keeping an ipod because of the things that happened to me in the past. I just honestly don't give a **** about the person who lost it. It's his lost, my gain. People lose things all the time but its not everyday something they find something good.

Honestly, If it's not registered there is no way you can track down the original owner or vice versa. So have fun with it

thats what I've been trying to tell these ppl. And thank you I will enjoy it. I was gonna give it to my daughter but she want a green one. Then I said well forget it you're too young for an ipod anyway she'd probably just end up losing it. :woot:

Hmmm...nope, still worse than Hitler. And Stalin.

...and Cheney. That's gotta hurt.

Good find. I'm selling my iPod to my roommate for a hundred. He was willing to pay $150. Profit.

You finding an iPod fair & square...nothing wrong with that.

i am not that foolish... I still got MY IPod! hehe.

He hasn't even tried plugging it in into iTunes to see if a serial number came up.

And using the rationale, oh I could never afford it, or I was robbed. Doesn't make it right.

If you turned it in and after 90 days no one claimed it, it'd be different.

Looking through this thread, Magnus...you probably wouldve been better off not bringing it up period.

Go ahead and keep the Ipod. There's no point in trying to be moral and return it since there's pretty much nothing you can do now to make yourself NOT look like a total, selfish *****e to the rest of us...:o

Hey, guys! I just donated one of my kidneys, are we cool now?

Everyone said:
:woot::hehe:!

I'm a very clumsy person so I lose stuff all the time. I've lost my purse, my mobile phone and money before and only the phone ever turned up, which I had lost because it had fell out my pocket. I like to take comfort in that I probably made someone's day in finding money. So if I found something, like an ipod, i'd probably keep it, but something like a mobile, i'd hand it in, its just the way the world goes really.

Did you pay for your sunglasses?

Yes, I paid for my sunglasses and leaving them in the gym someone could have easily put them in the gym's lost and found. What's this guy supposed to do, stand on that street corner everyday asking people if they lost an iPod.

So, how do you connect the ipod to iTunes? You have to register it to use iTunes, how did you do that?

I don't remember having to actually register my iPod, I could name it, but that's about it, was never asked for the serial number. Yeah, you have to register for iTunes, but that's because you need a credit card to buy music.

You guys are acting like Neto beat someone up and stole the iPod, he found it on the ground in the middle of the street.

Ok I installed iTunes and entered the serial #. Nothing came up. Not even the person's name. It just sez My Ipod.

Well, you got that part right.

yea obviously if I found something that was easily traced back to the owner I would give it back.

Exactly, at this point now there really is nothing else I can do.

Actually if the person EVER downloaded something form Apple/iTunes, you could call them and see if they could be able to research the serial number based on this:

He's just going to have another excuse as to why he can't do that.

How's that help him track the person down, there's no name, address or phone number. How far out of your way are you supposed to go tracking down someone's lost stuff.

All you have to do is call Apple or go to an Apple Store. They can track it down themselves.

Lotsa ppl on both sides of this. IMO it is stealing. I'm not trying to be <insert old time saying like 'stick in the mud'>, but if you find something that you know is not yours and pick it up with the intent of keeping it and not returning it, yes you stole it.

It's like saying it's ok to take someones car because they parked it outside their house and left the keys in the ignition. If someone worked hard to buy a multi $100 item, it's theirs, you didn't work for, nor are entitled to it.

How they lost the item shouldn't really matter. The cost of the item shouldn't matter either, tho a $3 comic book is far easier replaced than a $400 Blu-ray player.

Not trying to sound like someones dad or something, just my personal view. Personally I don't pick up random items unless I intend on giving it to the closest owner/worker of the place it was lost in and tell them I found it. I know I'd feel ****** if I somehow dropped my PSP, and retraced my steps but someone took it. It has music and games I paid for on it.

Like I said, if you sync'd your iPod to your iTunes and downloaded from iTunes, it's plausible that Apple or iTunes would have that serial number in their systems.

It's a phone call, how is that out of anyone's way?

I found a nursing book, something I know my gf could use, in the parking lot of my job.

There was no name or anything on it.

I put a sign in the front along with a photocopy of the book cover that it was found. Waited a couple of weeks and nothing.

So then I took it home.

I found $20 Bucks on the Stairs at the Office a few months ago.

I waited until someone said that they thought they had a twenty in their pocket but must have left it at home, during lunch.

I gave it back.

Another Time, I found a Purse in the Parking Lot of an old job I had. It was Christmas of 2005. It had over $1000 cash in it. I turned it in, and the lady got her Purse back.
