And I loved it, in fact it's the first time I have found myself sneaking off to pleasure read at work.

This all started a few months ago when me and my Roomate, Justin, decided our other roomate needed a girlfriend. We suspected (although we don't know for a fact, but strongly suspect) he has never had sex. Anyways, back in Highschool I had a friend in a similar situation (well not exactly since we both had not been laid back then...but were kind of trying to figure out women) and freshman year as a joke I got him Dating for Dummies (the pocket edition) and he really got a kick out of it. So this year I decided if our roomate could laugh at the whole "game" between men and women, maybe he would not be so intimidated by it.

So while in Salt Lake City, I found myself talking to this chick in a bar for quiet some time and remember what I had done for my friend in highschool. Since I had already gotten my roomate Justin an EB gift certificate, I decided it would be okay to get another gift. So I went to Barnes and Noble and scoured the "Sexuality" section for something along the lines of a more contemporary Men are From Mars, Women are from Venus, something witty but also entertaining for someone my roomates age (20). Anyways the section really had nothing that I was looking for, despite how amusing the "Sex Pop-Up Book" was. But I managed to, for some odd reason, buy this book The Game by Neil Strauss. This would definitely be a "book choose me" situation.

The book is an autobiography that reads like a cross between 40 Year Old Virgin, Swingers and Fight Club. It is incredibly entertaining and funny. The routines these guys come up with to get women are over the top and just fun to read, it almost reaks of mystic realism...where it's obvious they are exaggerating to extremes what they did. The characters are extremely interesting. From Mystery, who just seems like a creepy magician with a nack for tricking women into sleeping with him to Jefferies, who apparently hypnotises women. And it's main character Style who is attempting to learn the game while also question it's worth in the pursuit of worthwhile relationships. It reads (and the book makes reference to it being) a modern day Casanova or Don Won story. While what they do seems (and most likely is) pretty impractical it's makes for a damn fine read.

They say this book is due for movie treatment by 2007 under Universial (I think) and Sony. This book has Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrel and Ben Stiller written all over it in big bold letters. It would rock as a film (although would have to be alotted for time).

Anyways I highly reccommend it...I might even pick up his Motely Crew book next...despite not really liking the band.

Damn you for making a thread that would force me to delurk:cmad:

Yeah, I read The Game a while back. I even made a few threads on it. To be honest, I've since forgotten most of the book and reading back over the threads, they were basically the inane ramblings of a too PC jackass.

So, class, what've we learned?

-JLBats used to be too PC
-He couldn't get down with the ladies:huh:
-He picked up a single book, which became to him a sort of printed courage, and now he's big with the ladies. R0wR!

Seriously though, there's a part of me that sees The Secret Society's antics as sort of quick fixes.

And I find it incredibly sad that not only is there a secret seduction society thingy going on, but that there's actually a pretty thriving seduction subculture.

I mean, suUUure, they might be getting laid on a regular basis, but are they really happy?/Barbara Walters

So Mystery, Jefferies, and DeAngelo are REAL???

I thought this was one of those over dramaticized autobiographies, you know like if I became a famous Bobybuilder and then wrote my gym like it was some sort of cult with me JP, the Doctor and Moutain Mark (although I made up Moutain Mark...the other two are the real names of my trainers) and subculture where I learned the skills of getting beefy.

I like it because Style is just one of those likeable characters. I like how they don't paint the seduction gurus as really happy...in fact quiet the opposite.

To be fair I cannot see any reasonable person actually attempting their routines, aside from the fact that I think knowing magic would be cool, they just seemed...outlandish; especially when simple conversation seems to suffice...

Anyways the dialogue made me laugh, especially when I compared it to personal experience...I especially liked the part where they noted instances where girls would laugh with them despite their jokes being unfunny (something I've noticed quiet often...thankfully I've never looked that gift horse in the mouth).

Dude, it's all real:huh::

Was some of it exaggerated? Pooossibly.

It's not too hard for me to believe that a group of men who are exceedingly bad with women would form a ****ing seduction DEMOCRACY to make up for their failings in that department. Save them from having to deal with survival of the fittest and all that. Is it misogynistic? Every bit of the stuff I've read from inside the community seems misogynistic to me. But I can get over that.

What I just find hilarious is that the society has now spun out into this capitalistic thing that seems to be taking advantage of those same shmucks they used to be.

It's empathy for the Machiavellian:down

I'm looking very forward to getting it now. I was going to B&N tomorrow anyway to buy a Jeffrey Archer book, so I'll get it then.

He looks like Ray Liotta if he were a sensitivity trainer.

Yes. It's eerie.

Yes he can trick women into sleeping with him. But can he trick swedish supermodels into having 3somes with him on a regular basis?

According to the book that would be considered a "neg"....

Hey, what's your name...

Samantha...

You know what you look like.

What?

Ray Liotta if he were a sensitivity trainer...

*SLAP*

Ahhhhh damn.

Actually according to the book yes. The first women he "gets" is a playboy playmate. Apparently one of them screws Paris Hilton "off panel". Another has regular threesomes with bisexual women. There is also an extended scene about two sisters who are 10s and 11s....And I am only halfway through at this point.

Self parody much?

I'm sure many "truths" were exaggerated for dramatic effect. :ninja:
Like say a poster on an internet message board might do...

Ahhhhh damn.

Your mistake was saying "Ah damn".

You should have come back with something cocky and funny and you would have been tasting her virgin, Ray Liotta thighs in minutes.

It was kind of funny, but more in a "Shemp" way than a "cocky" way.

You fail:csad:
