Whatever they do, they have to make him ****ING SCARY !

I find Thanos a bit camp, with all that golden bling. And he SMILES !

Now IMO, that's just wrong. Thanos does not smile, and in the comics his eyes are a lightless black because he's got a completely empty soul.

In the films he's got a cool voice but otherwise looks more like I would expect Mongul to appear (I've always found Mongul slightly camp - especially in the classic "For the Man who has everything " story).

Darkseid has to be a very scary character. What's kind of made him scary in Earth 2, is that he hasn't shown up - merely his minions, and they were scary enough.

Anyway, no matter how it is done CGI or practical, as long as Darkseid is a scary MF that's cool.

Oh hey, in terms of really scary practical makeup, what about Tim Curry from Legend. Now he was camp, and scary !

If you've seen Tim Curry in real life, well, practical make up certainly worked.

I'd say a practical base, then use CGI in support, kind of like Xerxes in 300. The character's scale isn't an issue; I just prefer the more "real weight" of practical effects, and an actor who can act through heavier makeup would be more inclined to go for subtle movements and focus on their voice. I don't see Darkseid as a dynamic, energetic character; he's much more ponderous and exact in his movements.

Ah, my mistake then. And yeah he looks ridiculous. As a matter of fact less intimidating because of that to me, like your generic Hollywood's giant monster that rampages through the city.

Agreed. Shoving him back into his own boom tube looked pretty silly.

I'm definitely hoping when he makes his eventual appearance it feels much more threatening than in Justice League War, where he really could have been any random physical baddie.

The new 52 version is just kinda bland to me and lacking in the style of classic Darkseid that makes him pretty much the only really interesting thing about the Fourth World. Sorry, but that's how I feel. I have a soft spot for Desaad, Miracle and Barda but that's about it.

To me the New 52 version looks too gaudy and generic: all the gold and red on him looks more like Thanos. I prefer the more monochromatic shade of black and grey from Infinite Crisis or the bad future from Morrison's JLA, where he's all solid, stable darkness broken by red Omega energy.

I don't care whether he is CGI or Practical. Although a combination of both would, I think, do the trick.

Indeed. I hope they'll make him genuinely frightening, not just with the way he looks and acts (cold, calm demeanor), but the way they introduce him as well. I'd keep him a hidden antagonist for most part, and JL members would only learn of him through his minions. Play a bit with that horror aspect and approach.

And, yeah, he was absolutely terrible in "JL: War", though pretty much everyone was in that film.

Definitely. I hope Snyder stays away from his ugly new 52 re-design

thanks for bring up Xerxes, ppl are talking about Darkseid's height. Zack Snyder will most likely bring Darkseid to the big screen and he brought a 5'nothing guy like f'ing huge as Xerxes. Practical make up as a foundation with CGI/Mo-Cap to enhance and fill in.

Think Robert Downey as Iron Man, they have an actual suit on set combined with mo-cap and obviously CGI. It's the best way to do this cause that way you have that "real" element to it for the actors to interact with properly and it also tends to come out nice looking in post production for most characters like that.
