Whatever they do, they have to make him ****ING SCARY !
I find Thanos a bit camp, with all that golden bling. And he SMILES !
Now IMO, that's just wrong. Thanos does not smile, and in the comics his eyes are a lightless black because he's got a completely empty soul.
In the films he's got a cool voice but otherwise looks more like I would expect Mongul to appear (I've always found Mongul slightly camp - especially in the classic "For the Man who has everything " story).
Darkseid has to be a very scary character. What's kind of made him scary in Earth 2, is that he hasn't shown up - merely his minions, and they were scary enough.
Anyway, no matter how it is done CGI or practical, as long as Darkseid is a scary MF that's cool.
Oh hey, in terms of really scary practical makeup, what about Tim Curry from Legend. Now he was camp, and scary !
If you've seen Tim Curry in real life, well, practical make up certainly worked.
