Sequels If The Amazing Spider-Man flops, should they continue with Spider-Man 4?

Don't be sorry, I enjoy not liking mediocre films, and I care not what others have said about them. I demand a lot better for Spider-Man.

And to just call Spider-Man 2 a mediocre film...goddamn, got anything else that can make me laugh?

Ignorance is bliss must be your motto.

Alvin Sargent re-wrote Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man while Vanderbilt only created the story/concept for TAS-M and Kloves only added additional info on the characters and some of the dialogue to add humor and what not as he did not re-write the entirety of the script. The movie we'll be watching in 2012 will be a script that is collectively from Vanderbilt, Kloves and Sargent but mostly from Sargent since he's the one who came onboard AFTER Vanderbilt.

But nice try.
Nope, Vanderbilt wrote the script alone (Not just the story/concept) and Sargent was called in for polishing, that's it. James Vanderbilt will also be writing TASM's sequel. There's a big difference in writing the script and doing polishing on the script.

Sony's official announcement on the reboot says the film is based on James Vanderbilt's SCRIPT. I suppose you think that you know more than Sony about their own film, eh?
Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.

Alvin Sargent's role is Polishing the script:

Lucky for him that he was bangin' the producer or he wouldn't even be polishing. He was thrown a bone. Thank goodness Steve Kloves was last to polish up the script, he actually writes solid dialogue.

What makes SM2 such a great movie?

There aren't really any terrible, or "idiotic" films that have ratings of 9/10 and around the 90%'s.

Anybody that would say otherwise are clearly only Raimi-bashing.

Ehh, so I was wrong about Vanderbilt not writing the first script, but Sargent did indeed polish and RE-WROTE the script, as that's what writers do when they polish it...they end up re-writing. Now, sure, most of what Vanderbilt had will stay on paper to go into production, but Sargent did have his hand in the final product most likely as he did with S-M 2 and S-M 3.

And to have hope that Kloves would do any better is nice to have, but he hasn't done much outside of the Harry Potter flicks. It's nice to have a fresh take from Vanderbilt, but it's also nice to get Sargent back as he's use to the whole Spider-Man mythos already. Plus, Bendis was around as well during those stages.

And...show some respect, will yah? Stop saying he "banged" the producer. Show some class and stop just throwing out phrases just to try and get your point across of the "many reasons" why Raimi's films were awful. And start using 'imo' as well, because I can tell you already that no one has the same close and narrow-minded opinions that you possess.

Very well, he was married to the producer and she was the only one giving him work as a writer. Happy! :)

No, polishing does not mean re-writing the script. It means tweaking dialogue, scenes or/and characters. The story/concept remains the same. Do you think Sony would ask James Vanderbilt to write the sequel, to a movie that's not even in theaters yet, if they wasn't happy with his overall first script.

Anyway, I saw the final Harry Potter film (not a Potter fan). And I paid close attention to the dialogue written by Kloves. Now I know what he means when he says that he doesn't write cartoony "Shazam" like dialogue. He certainly is a plus to Amazing Spidey, that's for damn sure. Especially being that the bulk of his work was 'character' and 'dialogue' during his polishing of the script.

I love the whole trilogy, Spider-Man 3 the most, I enjoy every silly and ridiculous moment of it, still I want the Amazing Spider-Man to be a hit, and to never look back, even if that was possible

You love this word so much, I hardly saw a post of yours without it

The word best describes the Spider-Man movies.

They won't be able to continue with Spider-Man 4 even if it does flop. To be honest, that was the happiest part for me about the reboot announcement, that even if they get it wrong yet again, I'll never have to see that Raimi/Tmags shlock again. Ever. :yay:

Doubt it will flop. I think its reasonable to expect about $220-270 mil. domestic and $600mil. worldwide. That would be a good solid start for a reboot IMO.

That's going to be cool

Are you the same guy using this name from CBR?

I really don't watch many shows to be honest. The only animated series that I've really watched is the Avengers, which I enjoy. I'm really just looking forward to the new Spidey series next year and hopefully something new from the X-Men after that.:word:

Wait, so The Amazing Spider-Man flops, and they just go back to the last series and continue on like they didn't reboot at all? Surely, your hatred for the reboot is blinding you from thinking logically. It wouldn't make any sense whatsoever to go back and do Spider-Man 4 at this stage. I'm sure all of the cast and crew have pretty much moved on at this point, as well. The story told in the Raimi Spider-Man films is finished. That series of films is over.
