Who would it be? And by core I mean Amazing, Spectacular or Friendly Neighborhood.

I'd kick JMS off of Amazing and put on Dan Slott. PAD and RAS are doing a decent job though.

JM DeMatties, hands down. He wrote Shrieking, Kravens Last Hunt and the Death of Harry Osborn.

The only problem I have with ASM is Joe Q.

He's the one that came up with all the bad ideas and JMS has to do it because Joe Q obviously makes it known to him that he thinks its his character.

Having said all of that, my job is as a hired hand, as any writer working on somebody else’s universe is. When I was given Spider-Man, that to me, was a trust that I had to be careful not to break. So, if starting tomorrow, Marvel were to say, “From now on, Spidey’s going to have nine legs,” I would have to find a way to work with that, because it’s their character. They own it, and I have to respect that. I trust Joe’s judgment implicitly, and if he were to say, “We have to go this way,” I’m already on board, waving a banner and beating a drum, because I trust his judgment and it’s his character.

I think everyone is gonna say Dan Slott for ASM.

Redemption, Lost Years, The Child Within, undeniably the finest run ever on Spectacular Spider Man after the Clone Saga.........

JM DeMatties, simply put, is god's gift to Spider Man

Hell Yea.
But, pair him up with Mark Bagley!!!

ADAM-TROY CASTRO.

I'd LOVE to read a comic by him. He has written Spidey novels and short stories, but they are the best I have read. In fact, I should have read his novels last... they were SO GOOD, they have ruined me for the others. His characters are great... he actually made the Vulture scary... and HE knows how to write Peter and MJ! The marriage is no hinderance to REAL talent.

I'd like Slott to do it, but Joe's stupid ideas might make everyone turn on him.

That sounds good. I might have to check them out. :)

Actually, I'd like to see Mark Millar on a title again at some point.

J.M. DeMatties should go back to Amazing. His stuff during the clone saga and after was some of the best stories I've read.

Fabian Niciezia. Writer of Cable and Deadpool and Thunderbolts. I know he'd do a fantastic job with Spidey.

Why am I not surprised? :p

As much as I love what DeMatties has done with Spidey through the years, I think Dan Slott was born to write Spidey.

I liked Dematteis for the most part, but I think it's time to move on. He wrote some god stories. But, he also had a morbid fascination with death. During his run he seemed to have a grudge against Silver Age characters. He killed Harry Osborn and Kraven. He gave the Vulture a terminal illness (thankfully retconned since then), and he intended to kill Aunt May. He got rid of Peter's best friend. Harry's death has left a void in Spider-Man that has NEVER been filled.

Dematteis seemed to forget that he was a temporary custodian of the character. He was so intent on telling his story that he overlooked some of the long term ramifiactions of his decisions.

If I had to pick one writer currently at the company to take over the book, I'd go with Dan Slott simply because I think he respects the character too much to tell story that would ultimately prove detrimental to the character.

My second choice would be Joss Whedon. After reading Whedon's interview at Newsarama, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot.

Dan Slott....without Joe Q. breathin' down his neck pushing crap story-arcs on him.

Here are my dream teams:

1) Amazing Spider-Man

Dan Slott
Mike Weiringo

2) Spectacular Spider-Man

J.M. DeMatties
Mike Deodato Jr.

3) Sensational/Friendly Neighborhoodwhatever Spider-Man

Robert Aguire Sacasa
Steve McNiven

Ta-da! Yeah, I'd KILL to see Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch do a Spidey tale, but I know it'll never happen.

Millar should be working on a "Wanted" prequel.... just my opinion :)

Millar already said there will never be a "Wanted" sequel.....but feel free to check out Savage Dragon #128....Here's the cover...

keep millar away from spiderman. he came this close to just ruining him completely.

I think that JM Dematteis is a good writer, but his time has passed. Also, I'm not sure if he'd like how his Death of Aunt May was retconned. As I've never read anything by Dan Slott, I'll have to say Jeph Loeb in replacement of JMS.
