If you could pick a composer for a comic-book movie...

... who would you pick for what movie? Pick 2-4 upcoming ones and just choose, it can be a mix of Marvel and DC films or whatever.

And to make this a bit more interesting, let's try to narrow it down to composers who haven't dabbled in that movie genre before or to relatively new composers. And let's exclude the mega popular ones like John Williams, James Horner, James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer just to make people think out of the box.

Alexandre Desplat -- The Avengers
Before you guys scoff at this, this guy can write some amazingly big and explosive action cues. (He's also not averse to using other composers' themes if studio brass ask him to.) And his writing is clear and rhythmic, you can hear all the instruments and such.

Bear McCreary -- Man of Steel
Anyone who's heard his score for The Cape knows he can write a good superhero theme. He cites Shirley Walker, Danny Elfman and John Williams as his inspiration for the short-lived series.

Christopher Gordon -- Thor 2
I love this guy's music -- enough said.

The Ghost Who Walks - Ennio Morricone - Mostly because Sergio Leone wanted to make a movie about the Phantom before he died.

Man of Steel - Trevor Rabin (Or Edward Shearmur, who would probably be better) - Proof he can do both tragic beauty and heroic themes.

The Shadow - Angelo Badalamenti - He's great at creeping darkness, dreamlike atmosphere, and lyrical music.

The Amazing Spider-Man - Edward Shearmur (Or actually, better, Trevor Rabin) - This guy can write some great music, and Spider-Man needs a dynamic great score with underlying tragedy and pain, yet also humor and adventure. His Reign of Fire score makes me think of any number of Spidey villains, and his Sky Captain score makes me think of Spidey himself. Actually his Sky Captain score makes me think more of Superman. I think I have these choices switched....

Bone - Bruce Broughton - Man, look up any of his scores and you'll know I'm right. Especially his Homeward Bound score, as Bone has a bit of a Homeward Bound feel with a sense of ancient wisdom and ancient battles surrounding the heroes, who just want to get home.

I think Shearmur was attached to score McG's Superman using Williams' themes, before it got put in turnaround and became Superman Returns. Would've loved to see his spin on the Man of Steel, he's been a rut for a couple of years.

I believe they already have composers for the Avengers, TASM, and GR:SOV. But if I had to choose who to score any of those. Marco Beltrami. GR:SOV is definitely up his alley.

I know he's scored CBMs before (the first Hellboy and Blade II) but those were for C-list superheroes. I would like to see (or hear) him score a movie for the more popular comic book superheroes.

I would like to see Thomas Newman take a crack at one as well. I think he'd of been great for TASM.

I read Dreamworks was making a live action version of Ghost In Shell.
Micheal Mccann's work on Dues Ex - Human Revolution (another cyberpunk universe) was very good.
