If you dress as Joker for Halloween..you deserve a kick in the balls...

I'm dressing as the Joker this year because Heath Ledger and Chris Nolan made The Joker extremely achievable costume wise. I always wanted to be Joker for Halloween, but I didn't have a long face or a big smile or high pitched laugh.Ledger came along and made me think, "Hey, this look seems more my style from the makeup to the costume." I'm a huge costumer and I made a Rorschach, Ghostbuster, The Spirit, Batman, AND Joker costume just this year.

We're all discussing this on a Superhero board. Therefore we're not doing it because we're being "trendy", we're doing it because we love comic books. And if that last sentence doesn't pertain to you, then you should ask yourself if you should even have a say on this.

The way I see it is The Joker is at the height of his popularity with the general public, so what better time then now?

I'm not dressing up as the Joker because it's the cool thing to do, I'm dressing up as the joker because I've been a Batman fan for over 15 years, follow comics like a bible, and loved TDK. I don't have a plan. I just do things.

It's just a costume you wear for one day a year. If you want someone to blame, blame Ledger for bringing a fantastic interpretation of the world's greatest villain to life. If you don't, then ****.

Preach it sir

Well, it's Miller's Spirit, not Eisner's:csad:

This is the only pic I have as of now:

I haven't found anything besides a red tie for Eisner's. Plus I'm kinda broke as of now.

Did you go to this years past Comic Con 08?

Hmmm for some reason I thought I saw you....Hmmm guess I was wrong

IMO, hot topic sucks.
and they're way too expensive
But that's just my 2 cents :D

Would you rather spend 300 dollars on a coat,20 bucks on socks and 100 bucks on his shirt on Ebay?

or spend about 120 bucks max on that at Hot Topic?

Even with me being a huge Batfan, near fanatic level...I gotta say, dressing up as The Joker is pretty much the lamest fad right now and will be for years.

And then theres those people who want to buy the HT purple coat to wear every day...I mean, wow, I'm all for being a fanatic and showing your love of something, but thats beyond lame...

It reminds me of this time I saw this kid wearing a long black trench coat around the mall, he probably thought he was the coolest looking kid around, but he looked like the biggest idiot ever.

ok i won't dress up then.

i mean really, wtf. you're entitled to your opinion... but why hate on something for no reason? i've enjoyed the hell outta getting my costume together, finding bits and pieces here and there, trying to get it all together just right and the way i want it, which i've done for three damned months.

now, getting down close to the line and can't wait to try it all out at the parties i'm going to, and celebrating my birthday, starting to get excited about it...

but, i hear things like this that irk me. it's a 'fad'... people do it because 'its the cool thing right now'...

dude, its not like anyone is in your face going 'ohhhhhhh i'm the joker im the joker im the joker'... just like the damned kid in the mall wasn't in your face going 'ohhh im in a black trenchcoat, ohh i must be cool'. it was you that came up with that. don't be judgmental, man, its just not cool.

you can think its lame all you want... but don't come up to me if i'm wearing what i've worked on for 3 months straights, tried my damnedest to do the costume justice and not look shabby... don't come up to me and tell me i'm a fad-chaser and a lame ass. i'm pretty chill, but this marine can get pissed faster than mr. miyagi's chopsticks if you take the right route.

in general HT sucks, but sometimes they come through, usually for halloween. but then the new problem is that they purposely order very small quantities, and this allows ebayers to buy up their whole stock.

This is exactly why i chose to dress as the Joker last year; to avoid all the **** talk.

Several different factors lead to me be being a Southern Joker

I figured Batman's a high-tech big city boy with something to do and somewhere to be at all times. Nothing would annoy him more than some slow talkin' southern dandy.

Amen, Clint...I'm 45 years old, and I have a closet full of black trenchcoats (soon to have a purple one!:cwink:)...

Ohhh. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

In response to the article that was posted, Mr. Disgusting is generally known throughout the horror movie internet fanbase as a sell out, and a total prick. I don't know how much truth there is behind all that I've heard about him, but I do know that he put up some guy's Friday the 13th remake trailer that he recorded from the ComicCon and didn't bother to credit him, when the recorder very much deserved a good deal of credit, since he edited the video to really take away from the "recorded" quality of it.

Anyway, I digresss...

As far as The Joker costume goes, as I mentioned in the Joker costume thread, I have literally been The Joker the past three years in a row, and I've got the pics to prove it. The first year that I did it, I was 19 years old, and a friend of mine followed me around with a boombox playing the Prince songs from the '89 movie..and we literally were chased out of Wal-Mart by a manager threatening to call the cops. Most of the people who saw me thought that I was Beetlejuice...it wasn't until after I told them that I was The Joker that they were like, "Oh yeah, you DO look kind of like Jack Nicholson." But I honestly didn't care..it was the first Halloween in my memory where my costume totally came together...even if it pales in comparison to the one I've got now.

As soon as I realized what kind of interpretation of The Joker that we were going to get with The Dark Knight, I knew that this year would be full of Ledger Joker's. It is just to be expected. The character really struck a nerve with the public..and it also made the costume much more accessible. Now you don't have to spend hours making sure that you cover every visible bit of your skin with white makeup, and you don't have to go from thrift store to thrift store looking for a purple suit, because you can find them at any Hot Topic, along with the same shirt and socks and everything else.

So basically what we have here is a memorable villain with an accessible costume...was there every any doubt that there were going to be a ton of people walking around on Halloween with smeared red, white, and black makeup on their face?

Honestly, I'm just worried that this Joker invasion this year is going to cause my costume to go totally unappreciated....since I definitely look much more like the Nicholson version.

But regardless...I don't see a problem with the fact that the costume is "popular" this year. If you like the character, then you have every right to dress up as him. If you put time and effort into making it look good, then chances are, it will stand out and look good. Alot of people on these boards have been helping eachother find screen accurate Joker clothes...and that's going to make a huge difference when it comes down to a guy who has tracked down a shirt just like Heath's and a guy who went and bought the deluxe adult costume at Wal-Mart and smeared some paint on his face.

As far as the people who want to dress up like The Joker everyday go....yeah..it's a bit sad and a bit dorky, I suppose...but I honestly can't blame you. I have NEVER had a bad time in Joker costume...I think it's almost against the law or something.

I so want to do something like that with "Why So Serious?" from the TDK soundtrack - just 'cause I love that song so much. :woot:

I don't recall me "hating" on anything. Just because I think it's lame, doesn't mean I'm "hating."

I don't go up to people and randomly bash them. Have your fun, do what you want...it doesn't matter to me.

Don't be judgmental? ummm, I didn't know there was a rule against having an opinion.

And yeah, I'm 18, when did I say I wasn't? Just saying someone else is a kid doesn't imply that I'm not:whatever:

i never mentioned rules, laws, physics, or crochet. i just said 'don't do it because its not cool'... as in its not fair to project your values onto someone else and judge them based on how they may not live up to them.

and in my opinion, thats not cool.

Pretty clever and hilarious man. Made me lol

This is one reason why I dressed up as Joker last year for Halloween

It's funny how he complains and *****es about something on a blog, which is supposedly what all the Emo kids do.

You do what you like, who cares what people think or say? In response to Deadshot, I happen to love black trenchcoats. Yes, I think they're awesome. Now not as many people like them as like the Joker, but it still applies - if it makes you happy, do it. Life's too short to not be having fun.. :P

And good luck kicking me in the balls, since I don't have any. ;)

im debating on whether or not to do my joker from the opening night or go as nurse joker just to mix it up a lil bit. any suggestions
