Check this out.

Maximus the Mad put a mind influnceing "black spider" into Quicksilver a long long time ago. He said it was like a virus. This could be the reason he and his sister went loo loo.

Personally I think that this isn't a retcon. I think this was a twist they were planning from the start of the twin's decent into madness.

Sorry, but any plotline that ****ty HAS to be a retcon.

I don't think so I believe it is just a twist in the story.

A retcon is when something that is added on after the original story is told to negate somthing that happened in the story. It isn't planned from the begining.

The Spider-Man story Sin's past is a Retcon. Stan Lee didn't plan for that to have happened all along at the time of the original Green Goblin storyline.JMS made that up completely.

A twist is just a part of the story that the story teller leaves till later for a dramatic reveal. Unlike a Retcon it was always there just hidden.

The reveal that Electra is a Skrull is a twist. Bendis planned that moment from the beginning of his story. It is a legitimate part of his storyline.

So even if it's ****ty twist it does seem to be a twist and not a retcon.

Just use the right word okay. Sorry for the rant.

No, it's a retcon. Anytime you go back and come up with an excuse for an event that happened that long ago you're retconning the timeline.

The fact that it apparently happened "long, long ago" skews it even more towards a retcon, because then it can be used to erase basically whatever the writers want from Pietro and Wanda's past.

About Electra... Granted, her being a Skrull was a twist in New Avengers, but the fact that random Marvel heroes all across the universe are going to slowly turn out to be Skrulls IS a retcon.

Hmm valid points. But until we know how far back these story elements go
we will not know twist or retcon.

If the plan was for Maximus to have been influenceing the Maximoffs before dissassembled/house of M was written it is a twist. If it was decided after it is a retcon.
We don't know yet.

We also don't know that that Bendis is going to use his skrull story to retcon anything that happened before New Avengers started. It might just be all twists planned that were going to happen all along.

I'm tired of every twist in comics being labled a retcon. If a writer has somthing happen in a story and from the begining plans to have undone somehow then that is a twist. Not a retcon.

I read the book Ten litte Indians once. It's a murder mystery At the end we discover that the one we thought was the killer was just an acomplice and that the real killer faked his death halfway through.
This is a twist not a retcon.

But like I said we don't know if this is a twist or a retcon.

I'm leaning to twist. If only because I adore Maximus the Mad stories.

Bendis pry isn't going to retcon much. It's the rest of Marvel I'm worried about. Bendis and the editors said hey, lets make Elektra a Skrull! Okay, fine. That's a twist.

But now writers have an excuse to change anything that's happened in the last few years by saying "Oh yeah, that character was a Skrull."

And trust me, while they think ahead a bit, they don't think THAT far ahead.

this wasn't planned from the beginning, it was just hine's attempt to explain what's happened to pietro and wanda. technically it could be considered a retcon because it negates the fact that wanda and pietro just went insane from natural causes. its a nifty little explanation but i think its still a retcon
