The family of a convicted killer, currently serving 25 years to life, are suing the New York Correctional Services Department because they say the word ‘inmate’ is degrading. Specifically, they say it implies that he is in prison to ‘mate’ with other men.
Gerard Domond was 24 years old back in 1987 when he shot another man dead in a drug deal that went wrong. He is eligible for parole in 2013. But his sister, Maria Domond, says that the use of the word ‘inmate’ is degrading and is a cruel form of ‘psychological programming’. The lawsuit is seeking $50m for ‘mental anguish’.
It’s true that the word ‘mate’ can imply sexual coupling. But it can also imply friendship, companionship and just generally being part of a group. It will be interesting to see how far Gerard Domon and his sister get with the case.

Maybe if he hadn't been a killer, then he wouldn't be an inmate to be degraded by being called an inmate?

I don't even have to read it and I know it's gotta be in America.

Hahahaha! Next thing you know he'll demand gourmet meals & stuff. Utterly absurd!
