Interesting Miyamoto Interview "Originally, I wanted a machine that would cost $100"

Yes, you can move it in a 3D environment. That doesn't matter. That doesn't allow you to do anything even remotely new or innovative. Are you telling me a sports game is innovative? Or is it the "moving something to control something" thing that's been present in arcades and various "seen on tv" games for years? Again, people expecting this controller to cause innovation simply by being there are kidding themselves.

"And how does it do that exactly? I haven't seen the Wii do anything that a mouse hasn't done, and I doubt I will."

That's the original post. Being 3D isn't the issue. "Being 3D" not having any legitimate impact on how games are played or how innovative developers are is.

There isn't a Wii game announced that does something a game for another next-gen console can't do.

I don't think they could do some of those things as well mind you.

:O

Maybe I'm not the best person to answer that question as I'd rather play Metroid Prime 3 using the Prime 1 and 2 setup, not the freeform pointer.

Ummmm...

Flight Games will be awesome with the WII and PS3 controllers. :o

the only thing i see the controllers good for are for fps's. thats about it. the opening doors in metroid with prime is kinda of pointless. i really don't care for stuff like that. i just want to play an awesome game.

and miyamoto needs to stick to video games and let the engineers make the decision on specs.

Exactly. If developers choose to use what's given to them effectively, the Wii offers more precision and control than what's offered on the other two consoles (though I'm eager to see how some games control on PS3.) And as most of us have read so far, we are already seeing that with many of the launch games and many future titles. I don't expect the developers to nail the control right away, though.

Oh for god's sake, don't tell me you're buying into this crap too? Look at the games! It works like a ****ing mouse!

It honestly seems like you haven't researched much into the games (or the controller) yourself. But since you're buying a Wii, I suggest you try to play as many games as you can and then giving us a better, more informed assessment. I've played the Wii, and it offers far, far more versatility than a mouse.

But even if it did work like a mouse, I don't see the problem. It would still be far more effective (and accessible) than a standard controller.

dammit. Most of this nine-page piece of crap, defensive and poorly written article is about the DS.

The rest of the article dealing with the Wii goes wrong in so many places it's hard to see where these "writers" are coming from.

How is it crap? It is merely saying that the Wii, like the DS (and the NES before it), is distruptive console with distruptive technologies. Nintendo's strategy is distruption, not market expansion (though that is one goal, to be sure.) This strategy will have dramatic consequences, either good or bad.

It's certainly more than I can say for some of the Xbox 360 and PS3 cases I've read.

The games industry doesn't even consider Nintendo competition for MS and Sony, they're considered their own little niche brand.

Yes and no. They're creating something different, yes, but not niche. Niche is Xbox 360 and PS3. With the astronomical price tags and impractical, tech-heavy features, these two consoles cater to a niche audience. Wii, on other hand, strives to be mainstream. This is why the Wiimote is what it is. It ditches complex permutations of buttons for a more natural, intuitive interface. It's quicker and easier.

But aren't you a bit late to the party? With all three essentially released, I don't see the point in this type of discussion anymore. Let the consoles and the games speak for themselves.

EDIT: I might add, that right out of the gate, the Wii has the best game of all time. Can Gears of War or Resitance: Fall of Man take claim to that too? Certainly not.

Nintendo is the only company that hasn't sold out, IMO. As fanboys, you should be embracing the underdog. For shame.

I don't think they would be as sucessful if they had simply made a technological jump aking to what Sony and Microsoft have made. I think that the Gamecube proved that susinctly enough. Nintendo can't 'keep up' with that style' and futhermore how would it have encouraged third party support at all with 'next gen' games being even more expensive? Nothing would have changed and the inherent problems of the Gamecube would have carried over to the Gamecube 2. With the wii though it is clearly differentiating itself from the competition beyond simply having Nintendo games and it's basically following the same strategy as the DS which has worked very well for them.

By emphasizing a unique interface ofver expensive graphics tech it looks like third parties are much more curious about testing the Wii market, even when you compare to the third party interest that surrounded the Gamecube at launch.

Nintendo = underground indie band, MS and Sony = hip-pop on the radio

You must be kidding. Nintendo hasn't "sold out"? Are you ****ing serious? I can't believe there are still people out there dumb enough to think one company "is only out for money" while another gives a **** about something else. I really can't.

nah, nintendo are making themselves underdawgs all on thier own.

How is creating a console that is more simple and appealing to the non-gamer making them underdogs?
