Confirmed: Prince of Persia Swinging to Wii
Ubisoft is bringing the linen-clad warrior to Nintendo's new system after all.

August 7, 2006 - Last week Ubisoft delighted Nintendo fans by announcing it will support the launch of Nintendo Wii with seven titles, including entries from popular franchises Far Cry and Rayman. In the midst of all the news were hints -- largely from what looked to be announcements from Ubisoft France -- that Prince of Persia would also climb onto Nintendo's new console. The company's official press release, however, was distinctly Prince-free.

Will the sandy acrobatic scion make his way to the Wii or not? It turns out he will.

"I can confirm that a game based on the popular Prince of Persia franchise is one of many titles Ubisoft has in development for Nintendo's Wii," a spokesperson for Ubisoft told IGN today. "At this time we can not provide an official date for the game or any additional information about it."

According to the spokesperson, the Prince project was left off last week's announcement because it will not be a Wii launch title; the company does not have release timing or details for the game just yet.

Ubisoft previously stated that it has more, still unannounced titles in development for Nintendo's new generation console.

Of course, the Prince's sword-swinging, acrobatic moves could be an easy fit for the Wii controller, even if Ubisoft opts out of the controller-to-sword mapping it initially attempted with Red Steel.

Ubisoft will be showcasing some of its Wii titles at the Games Convention 2006 in Leipzig, Germany later this month. IGN will, of course, be on hand for up-to-date reports.

Knew it...Ubisoft of France blurted it like a week ago

Instead of Assassins Creed?
I'd take the Prince over the Assasin, at least I slightly know what i'm getting if I chose the Prince.

If the Prince is getting an all-new adventure on the Wii it should be worth a look as long as it's more Sands of Time than Two Thrones.

Was Two Thrones like Superman 3 where they split in half and the good guy wins? At the end of the game is he like the Prince in SOT? :D

I loved the Two Thrones, and I love the ending, how it all sort of goes back to the begining with him telling the Story to Farah.
I hope it is a little less dark, because the end of Two Thrones finally brought some happiness to the Prince's life.

jeez this thread needs more love, maybe zenien should comein here and start a riot.

i hated the chariot levels in the two thrones... some of the most annoying crap ever. hopefully they'll leave those out.

Those were really my only problem. The steering was really poor.

Two Thrones was cool. some of the banter between the princes was pretty funny.

"I have to help her!"

"Go ahead! Fall to your death. That'll really help things."

it's not nearly as cool as SoT-prince, but it's way better than emo-prince from WW.

Man, I'm loving Ubisoft more and more. They just might take Capcom's place as my favorite third party.

These Prince games are going to be fresh, right? Brand new stroyline and everything?

Wow, yeah that makes Wii so great. It hasn't lost a multi-platform series from the last generation. OMFG, WII ROOLE!!11

I don't think it has SplinterCell, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six or Assassins Creed, but Ubisoft is definitely giving it the love.

I wouldnt be surprised if Red Steel wasnt the sole FPS in development at Ubisoft.

I guess I wouldn't be either, since there's also Far Cry :O

First shots and details of Wii Prince of Persia
Monday 18-Dec-2006 5:34 PM Two Thrones gets a name change and added motion controls for Wii

The acrobatic Prince of Persia is making his way to Wii in Prince of Persia Rival Swords - a remake of PoP: The Two Thrones which released on multiple formats in 2005.

Of course, the Wii version will have remodelled controls that'll have you swinging and shaking the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to make the Prince jump, flip and fight his way through levels.

The first screens, which can be viewed below, come with small controller diagrams that reveal a few of the gameplay mechanics that make use of the movement sensitive Remote.

By the looks of it, you'll be using the Nunchuk analogue stick to control the Prince's movement, and swinging the Nunchuk to use his metallic Daggertail whip. The images also appear to show a surprise stealth kill executed by thrusting the Wii Remote downwards.

Prince of Persion Rival Swords is the latest in a growing list of Ubisoft remakes, including Blazing Angels, Far Cry Vengeance, Splinter Cell Double Agent and more, brought to Wii months or, in some cases, over a year after the original release.

Rival Swords will be released in March 2007, by which time the original game will have been out for almost a year and a half. Will the new controls make it worth playing

Prince of Persia is an awesome series. All 3 games, especially the third one were absolutely fantastic
