Iron Man Iron Man budget

Think I read a blog from jon about the budget.

edit:

The Budget for Iron Man: Asked if Paramount placed a strict ceiling on the effects budget for Iron Man, Favreau responded, “I think the ceiling’s sort of emerge based on what they think that the movie’s going to earn. I think that working on a Marvel project like Iron Man, he’s sort of the biggest superhero left that hasn’t had a franchise yet. I think the success of X-Men and Spider-Man without really being star-driven pieces reassures them that the film does have an upside commercially. And what’s nice, too, is that those movies don’t require an expensive star to [sell] it. Iron Man’s the star, the superhero’s the star. I don't know that a movie like Daredevil did better for having Ben Affleck than Spider-Man did having Tobey Maguire who was a relative unknown at the time.

A bit contradicting read this, seing as he has well known and probably well paid actors so far. He goes on to say that the special effects are less expensive than they could have been. Its rare that we are given the exact budget, but seing as this is a big character, like Jon says, I would say we are talking about 100 at least.

One of the money men at Marvel was quoted as saying IM and Hulk would cost between $100 and $160 mil, they don't want to give hard numbers. And I understand they can take more from their facility if it becomes necessary.

I heard somewhere, that the budget is around $186 Million.

^^^

And 300 had only $65m with so beautiful vfx work ;) Everything can be done cheaper, if you really want to.

I heard the top name Characters(IM,Cap)in the Marvel/Paramount deal would get the top end of the budget at $180M.

BTW who is doing the SFX for IM ?

Closest I've seen for confirmation was in the Mar 4th MySpace thread that Favs said he was going to ILM and Skywalker Ranch... The gold standard, ILM. That'll drain a budget...

ILM lowballed this job. Digital Domain and ILM were the 2 final shops. ILM kept the reducing the bid, everytime DD countered. It still isnt cheap, but ILM practically "bought" the job..

Keep in mind a lot of people thought F4 was under-budget and cheap looking.

X-2 was basically made with the budget Singer was originally promised for X-men.

300 in addition was not trying to achieve what Iron Man is. And it didn't have the star power that Iron Man currently does.

Still, I think everything can be done cheaper and look great, if they find the right way for it.

its cool that they got ILM, but i wouldnt be doing cartwheels until i see the completed work. ILM, when their plate gets too full, tends not to give 100% quality work with other films. it happened with The Mummy Returns. heck how many franchises have you seen where the VFX on the first film was miles better than the sequel?

150mil is ALOT for a first of the series..
It is? BB had a $150 million dollar budget. SR had 206.

Even Hulk had a 130-some million budget...and that was made a good 5 years ago.

Don't forget that SR wasn't the first film of the franchise, just a requel and at the same time new view of trilogy, so it shouldn't be counted.

Besides, I can't see anything more than $160m for IM's budget, because it's Marvel's first movie and I doubt they'll give so much money.

You're right. At least back in November the budget was around that figure according the stunt man.

And to think the first X-Men movie only got HALF of that.:cmad:

But Superman, Batman, Hulk and Spider-Man for that matter are much better known than Iron Man. Having already had their own live action movies and tv shows so studios are quicker to invest huge sums.
