Is 2012 the biggest year in the history of comic book movies?

Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and the Avengers.

That's about as loaded of a lineup as you will ever see.

To be honest, that's the year I'm the most excited.

The Avengers can make or break the genre, DC is coming out with a double hitter (a first), and Spidey is back as a reboot. And Wolverine has an acclaimed director by his side.

Also, Ridley Scott has his film, along with Peter Jackson coming back to Middle Earth. Even Disney has their John Carter of Mars which could be rad.

I agree with OP. 2012 will be the biggest year in movies... The box office will be huge..

2000 - X-Men
2002 - Spider-Man
2003 - Daredevil, Hulk, X-Men 2
2004 - Spider-Man 2, Punisher
2005 - Batman Begins, FF, Sin City
2006 - Superman Returns, X-Men 3, V for Vendetta
2007 - Spider-Man 3, FF 2, Ghost Rider
2008 - The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Punisher War Zone
2009 - Watchmen, Wolverine
2010 - Iron Man 2
2011 - Thor, Green Lantern, Captain America, X-Men Prequel
2012 - Superman, Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Wolverine 2
2013 - Iron Man 3

2012 by far is the BIGGEST.....WE'RE TALKING ALL FOUR OF THE BIGGEST FRANCHISE FILMS / CHARACTERS PUTTING OUT ANTICIPATED FILMS WITH LEGIT DIRECTORS MAKING THEM (Nolan who proved himself w/ BB, TDK......Snyder who proved himself w/ 300 & Watchmen, Marc Webb 500 Days of Summer, and Darren Alfonsky who has made some of the most fantastic films of all time including Requeim for a Dream, Fountain, The Wrestler & Black Swan ) ! ! Well, Marc Webb isn't exactly a lock on proving himself, but 500 Days of Summer was pretty good.... We'll see on that one.

Ghost Rider is going to get engulfed by the hype for the other movies.I love Ghost Rider but that movie will fail.

Yup, the best year in comic book movies but maybe in some years from now the genre will break and fall again.

Yeah, eventually the Superhero genre will quiet down. The popularity of Superhero movies in the past 10 years so so kind of reminds me of the Universal Monster movies of the 30's-40's, and The Avengers is the first of the "monster mash" series that we saw with movies like "Frankenstein meets the Wolfman" and "Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein."

But it's become too huge of a staple of Hollywood blockbusters for it to be a simple fad that will die out completely. Somebody will bring it back, whether that be for nostalgia purposes or as a clever reinvention of it.

That said, one thing we need to remember about 2012 is that not all of those movies can be super mega-hits. Audiences will have to be jaded by the spectacle at some point. It's hard for the GA to be excited about all of these movies when so many of them are coming out within one year.

What would be the 'Generation 2' of comic book movies? The movies since The Dark Knight and Iron Man, or the movies that are coming out this year (Green Lantern, Thor, Cap)?
