So am I. I'm still extremely excited to see Thor, Captain America, and most of all, Green Lantern. But Nolan and Snyder's projects I'm more of a fan of than Campbell, Johnston, or Branagh's. Not looking forward to X-Men because I don't like Vaughn's movies, but I have no opinion on whether it will actually be good, I'm just not interested. We should all just be happy that we're getting so many superhero movies and just hope they're good instead of trying to explain how one company is better or worse than the other.

You didn't see horror fans bickering in the earlier 2000's about whether Dimension with Michael, Pinhead, and Ghostface or New Line with Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface was better. They just sat back and... Got disappointed by the sequels for the most part.

While I vaguely have an idea how Thor and Capt will turn out to be (as a guess on their quality)...I have a huge QUESTION MARK for Green Lantern. It seems like its heart's in the right place but I just hope the second trailer will blow us away.

I agree Octoberist, I know that DCE is in a "holding pattern" due to being unsure about Green Lanterns B.O. but I think they need to at least line up projects so the fans have some faith. TDKR and Superman were givens because they are proven money makers but honestly I think we will see most of our heroes come to light after Harry Potter ends.

No superhero film this year is riding any buzz, in fact you'd hardly know there were 4 superhero flicks coming out this yer, there's only one superhero flick that's generating any buzz and it hasn't even started filming yet.

I would say that the Thor movie has gotten some decent exposure, with 2 trailers and a Super Bowl spot. X-Men: First Class going under the radar is a bit understandable; it's a spinoff/prequel/reboot (whatever) of a franchise that has lost a bit of luster in the last couple of years, with no one returning from the original cast.

The one I don't get is Green Lantern. Seriously, this is WB's summer tentpole, and regarded as the key for future DC superhero movies. They released a trailer a while ago which got a lukewarm response (not that it was horrible or anything)...and since then, nothing. What's up with that?

Cap hasn't gotten a trailer yet either (although it was advertised on the Super Bowl), but it's understandable if they want more time to get things together. It's not as odd to me as bringing out a trailer like WB did for GL, and then falling silent.

Thor is being released before Cap and GL, so it makes more sense that more footage from it has been released as of yet.

All I can say about GL is that if Geoff Johns thinks it will be epic, there has to be some hope.

I don't think WB is 100% certain that superhero movies aren't a fad. I've heard people predict (not that I agree) that 2012 will be the death of the superhero movie.

Both Marvel and DC have movies lined up for 2011 and 2012, neither has that much set in stone after 2012. Iron Man 3 is kind of the only reliable movie set up after that because of its built-in audience.

WB is also looking to fairytale movies and classic literature to replace Harry Potter. I don't think they just want to rely on superhero movies.

Green Lantern has some leeway for a greater shared universe, there's Krona and Amanda Waller. I'm sure Johns and Berlanti etc. have given some thought to that- not that it is the priority, but that it is possible. I don't know about Superman and Batman, maybe they want to keep those separate from the shared universe because they are the biggest names. Or they'll rethink that after Nolan leaves. But Flash and GL may have some indication they exist in the same universe, so something can be done way down the line for crossovers or some form of teamup. Maybe we will start getting more and more hints that there is a link there, with characters or locations etc. that affect the whole DC universe.

I'm sure Geoff Johns is waiting to see what he is allowed to do after GL's box-office and when Nolan leaves. And, yeah, he seems pretty confident about GL.

The deal with a JL movie is that it would be even riskier than the Avengers, because it would involve more far more fantastical, sci-fi elements. More egos to bring together and a complicated story to merge.

The DC characters just have more of an epic scope to them. I remember Johns saying once that "our characters are bigger than theirs." When I read that I didn't take it as DC > Marvel, but that the Marvel universe is simpler and has less of a grand, epic tone to it. Okay, Marvel has Thor, but the whole point of Thor is a "god" becomes a superhero by learning humility and the concept of living as a human. DC characters are already up on more of a pedestal. Even the grounded-in-reality Batman of the Nolan-verse is "our watchful protector, a Dark Knight." Iron Man, and Tony Stark for that matter, is just another superhero and celebrity in the world.
That being said, DCE still fails to see the need to flush out other stories away from Superman and Batman. Lets just hope GL doesn't tank.

Also, most of the Marvel characters in the Avengers (except for Captain America) were created around the same time by one guy, in the early 60s, and the Avengers teamup came soon after (and where they revived Captain America.)

So the Marvel teamup occurred not long after these characters were created, with Stan Lee bringing together and controlling these separate characters and storylines. So in a way, it makes sense that they team up right away in the movies. It's written more in the comic book storyline.

Whereas the Justice League had many members that existed decades before that, with a long history before the JLA. Superman and Batman did not even consistently appear in the early issues of the JL.

Not likely. If GL craters, maybe, but nobody will lose their job if WW bombs. Hollywood already thinks that people won't watch an action show with a female lead. They'll see a failed WW show as confirmation, never mind whether the show was any good. And even if there are firings, the heads that will roll won't be the ones truly responsible for the failures. Senior execs screw with projects left and right, but it's the creatives who get sack when the projects go down in flames.

Just look at NBC. That network finally sacked Jeff Zucker last year, but only because Comcast bought them and then pulled the trigger. NBC never would, even after almost a decade of Zucker's disastrous failures.

I remember years ago asking for a Green Lantern movie, always asking how long it would take to make. Till this day it still feels like a dream that it's actually happening. I hope to have that same luxury with Flash one day, sooner rather than later. All we know is that a script was turned in but if handled correctly the film could be huge.

Just saw the Captain America trailer. Holy crap does it looks epic. Meanwhile, DC has a Wonder Woman who enjoys ice cream sleepovers and who says things like "we got bidness" and "big **** save lives"...

They got their work cut out for them, to say the least. Hope the 2nd Green Lantern trailer really blows everyone away. I didn't hate the first trailer and thought it was fine, but Cap just took things to another level. DC needs to respond.

I thought the first Green Lantern trailer didn't do any favors for the film. It wasn't BAD per say..but it wasn't good either. I think it's mostly due to the weird editing, the questionable tone, and the use of bad music.

It does feel like DCE are waiting until the last minute for GL promotion. I wish it had a Superbowl TV spot. I think it's a harder sell than Captain America. Thor is a hard sell, but it has had a pretty effective campaign. With all the GL merchandise and the animated TV show it does look like WB are confident in it. I hope that new trailer does well and has maximum impact. It needs to build the hype not just to the geek crowd but the general public.

They're worrying because time is running out for a huge promotional campaign after the last trailer got a mixed reaction. It looks like WB is waiting to release it with an upcoming big movie.

It does seem odd. The impression I got is that they wanted the film to be huge. But, it doesn't feel like it's getting the same type of marketing they've done with TDK, Inception and the Harry Potter films. All we have is a trailer that felt rushed and all over the place just to be released with the previous HP film.

All I keep reading about is merchandise. Maybe that's their focus with GL.

My impression is this: I don't think Sony Imageworks realized how big of a project this is. This is their biggest one and knowing that they can't pull the 'talking animal' stuff they've done in the past, they have to go down the extra mile to get it done. But I think they're lagging.

Now, they did a good job with Spider-Man 2, but I've always questioned their animation on CGI characters, which I was never impressed by.

I don't know about that. I looked over at Facebook and the average rating for the film was a 4.2 out of 5 (with 94 people voting). I know it's not very scientific, but it's probably just as good as people over here saying that it got mixed reviews or that it sucked.

The Captain America trailer just got released last night. The ball is in DC's court now to get the second Green Lantern trailer out there soon. I hope that this time, the trailer actually shows us what the ring does. The last trailer showed us a lot of the Green Lantern world, but unfortunately it failed to actually get people excited about what the ring can do. We saw that it makes a suit, that it lets Hal fly, and that he can make a big fist with it. If you weren't familiar with GL before that trailer though, you'd probably be left scratching your head about what exactly the Green Lantern does that makes him a superhero.

I agree. I think one part of showing off the ring's powers is when Hal is going through the training himself. That way, they can use the Kilowog or Sinestro's instructions as a voiceover.

But I think that just involves a ton of effects and me think they're scrambling to get it all done.

Heck, they don't NEED to release with a specific movie like Sucker Punch (too late now) or Fast 5; just release it online when it's done.
