Is Democracy failing us

Americans are currently experiencing the downside of Democracy. You can pick a President, but sometimes that President is not that good. But there is a way to change it,its called impeachment.

Yes, we chose a sucky President, but considering how ignorant you are of America, just go away.

1) America is not a democracy
2) The people did not elect George W. Bush.
3) You can call it "democracy", but if you are using fear to coerce voters, it is not "democracy". Therefore you can't suggest that democracy failed there, because they weren't practicing it.
4) That "something more" you want is.....THE ANTI-CHRIST!

The sad truth is Bush was elected, I hate to break it to you but 9/11 also happend. :csad:

Yes, I do.
Maybe your mind is too small to understand what purposes the internet can truly serve.

:whatever:

How many instances have we heard of of people stealin credit card numbers, or other valuable information being compromised?

Then, how will you stop people from taking peoples names and then voting online - online voting means no ID confirmation.

Then you would have to supply every family with a computer an internet access - or else they have no say in government.

And then you have to make sure people are smart enough to use a computer - that takes out a good part of the elderly. A group that makes up a major part of the voting public.

Basically - while a plausible solution in the land-of-make-believe, in the real world it is incredibly flawed.

You need grounds for impeachment - Bush does not have that.

The funny thing is that if Iraq turns out NOT to be a complete failure (which means that anything above Iraq becoming worse than Saddam), and if Iran does not end up nuking someone durin Bush's presidency - Bush will probably go in the books as a good President.

Just because Presidents are hated when they leave, doesn't mean history will view them differently.

Hell - ask any historian to give you his top 10 Presidents - Truman will make 90% of lists.

When Truman left office, his approval rating was lower than Nixon-Post Watergate. People tried to get him impeached too.

Democracy hasn't failed, but America has. We have the biggest economy in the world and we still force our citizens to pay for health care and electricity.

We have the greatest economy BECAUSE of capitalism.

The Nationalize Health Care and Electricity would hurt that system, period.

Bull ****, Luxumborg has a GDP rating of $80,000. They're socialist to boot.

I'd rather have a slower economy and have universal health care and nationalized electricity.

America has the most advanced medical research in the world for a reason. Why? The competition of the capitalist system encourages companies and scientists to find the next wonder job so that they can sell it and make tons of money. You nationalize health care - you ruin that ambition.

Also, you can't trust the government to get it right. The government has a monopoly on, really, one area: Education. Education sucks in the country BECAUSE of it and it will never improve until it is commercialized .

Government health care blows. I'm a recipient of it. It really does suck in areas such as New York. In New York I have to go to a freaking ghetto clinic.

And as Norman says, the American health care system is the most advanced mostly due to the fact that it is private.

I call bull **** again, Costa Rica and Sweden have better health care systems than us.

Luxembourg is not socialist. It offers socialist styled programs, but it is technically a mixed economy just like the rest of the industrialised nations

Your talk of government health care just reminds me of how much I hate it. A ****ing ghetto clinic.

That says nothing about the health care facilites of Sweden. That just talks about Sweden's success in having a welfare state. I'm an advocate of small government and it is in my opinion that the United States should not develop into a Swedish welfare state.

Small governments are weak ones. What good is a government if it can't take care of its people?

Name the number of people that can afford these medical advancements?
Not everyone can afford medical insurance.

But its not the government job to ensure that these people have medical insurance. It is also not their job to ensure they have a home, or electricity, or phone lines.

Plus there are county hospitals that MUST treat you if you come in.

In America you can come into a hospital - and if you have the money - you can have a life saving surgery.

You go onto Canada and you get on the list for free - however the list is long and no guarantee that you will get it in time.

Credit card and personal information is stolen by negligence. Paying bills online is much safer than paying through the mail; thieves must convince you that they represent your bank institution, to get access to your information.

People are not too stupid to use a computer; they just cling staunchly to the outdated, and I'm sure you can relate to that.

Some cities, such as Chandler, Arizona, are volunteering to host city-wide wi-fi service. Along with your water and sewer bill, you pay the city for internet access.

I'm talking about the future. You just, ... well, what does it really matter!

The People have to take responsibility for that. I dont know about you, but I dont want to rely on the government for my needs.

Yay, Poor people are poor because they're lazy!

What a wonderful John Wayne mentality. :yay:

A good hacker can find their way in. A good hacker can be bribed. Bad combo.

Fine, lets say they don't want to use a computer. Who are you to force them to get on something they have no business being on and no skills to know how to use it?

Great - you forget the whole cost of the computer.

Again - the problem is NOT with Representative Democracy.

Did I say that at all? I simply stated that the Government's job was not to guarantee anyone those services.

So the government should let people die or live below the poverty line?

Not everyone is interested in a rugged individualist style government.

Small governments are weak ones. What good is a government if it can't take care of its people?

Small governments tend to be weak due to giving too much power to their divisions and horrible mismanagement.

I'm not advocating the existence of no government. I just don't think that the government has the right to put it's nose in the personal and economic affairs of the individual.

This is all a matter of opinion and beleifs and it's kind of hard to change that upon people. I'm most likely not going to get you to change your mind on having a huge government that provides the people with every possible serivce they need and you're most likely not going to change my mind that I beleive that the government should only really do what is necessary and strictly adhere to the Constitution.
