C. Lee said:I'm not sure what they will do with the Punisher....but I believe you will be seeing a lot more straight to DVD releases in the future. Studios are seeing that many movies are making more money on DVD than in their theatrical releases. If they can cut out the cost of making film prints and advertising for theatrical releases, which the news has been reporting for the last couple of years as being on the downslide, then they could see even more profit with direct to store releases.
I know they are doing the straight to video animated movies...but I'm not sure about live action. I remember hearing something about Marvel straight to video productions, but don't recall if it was that they were going to try a couple or that they had decided not to do it.RedIsNotBlue said:Didn't Marvel make a deal or something a while back already to do a couple straight to dvd movies already?? And I honestly don't see the Punisher 2 being straight to dvd considering the first already had a very low budget and Hensleigh barely made it with that.
Yep...it was released to close to Kill Bill....you don't want to release similarily themed movies close together...especially if the opposition has Tarintino's name attached.RedIsNotBlue said:Yeah but C Lee do you agree that if the Punisher just had a better release date it would have had a much bigger box office?

I know....I've heard some say they should have waited or started a week different...I was trying to say there should have been a couple of months between them at least.RedIsNotBlue said:Close??? It was the same day...lol. A Quentin Tarantino revenge/action most anticipated sequel of the year. Worst decision ever.

There were several things done wrong to promote it. They should have had more mention of Roy Sheider as his dad is one. When I watched the DVD with my parents, they were surprised to hear he was in it and were glad to see him because they are fans of his. A lot of older people may go to see a movie because of some of the older "non currently popular" actors that are in them. Hollywood tends to forget this.RedIsNotBlue said:Well that's my point. Just normal people like us can see it has great box office potential if just handled more properly.

It was. He has a following for sure...but they aren't necessarily the action movie type (Broken Arrow not withstanding). I went because I am a comic and action movie fan...my wife wanted to go after she saw the trailers with Thomas Jane. My dad can't stand Travolta, but likes Scheider. They should have reached out to a more diverse group of possible customers.RedIsNotBlue said:Well I think so much was put into Travolta they tried to put a lot of the focus that he was in the movie which was also a mistake.
