I've just finished reading the black and white anthology of the Unknown Soldier's exploits. Assuming that he survived WWII( his death could have been faked by G-2(US Army intelligence)) he would be now nearly 90 years old, when he got too old for his job could another replacement have been selected-and another(right down to the present day). Besides, is it possible that the KGB knew about him(from captured Abwehr, SS and Gestapo records seized at the conclusion of WWII by its predecessor the NKVD?
