[FONT=Arial,Helvetica]In an interview with GameDaily at this year's E3, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata had this to say about Wii's launch price: "What we've been repeatedly saying is that it's going to be an affordable price point, and when we say affordable, you may want to check our past records of price points, launching price points for any past [Nintendo home console] hardware..."

Take note that every US Nintendo home console has launched for $200, according to Wikipedia. (Yes, even the scaled down $199 NES and $199 N64)

Also in the interview, Iwata cleared up rumors of a discontinued Game Boy line by saying, "No, it's not true after all." Long live the three pillar strategy, baby!

Honestly, I'm not shocked by this. It's cool that we pretty much have a price confirmation, but I don't know to many people that expected Nintendo to launch for OVER 200.

I leaned so far in the Wii's direction that I fell over. I'll have in on launch, it will be the first home console I've gotten at launch since the N64 and Playstation.

I've never bought a Nintendo console in my life, but for once I'll actually buy it over Sony. :o

Yet much more fun, with what we've seen so far.

Eh, i disagree. Im not a Zelda fan, and i think Mario is for kids. My 360 is PLENTY of fun for me.

There should be much more games that could interest you.
Red Steel, I think, will be amazing.
But yeah, the 360 rules.

Dont get me wrong, im not a Nintendo basher. I own a Gamecube and the two best games EVER created(IMO: Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4). I just think the Wii is a really lame, gimmicky idea. I look at how successful the xbox was, and i wonder why Nintendo didnt try to tap into that success.

Well, they're just trying to go for something different, however I respect your opinion and hopefully the Wii will blow you away like it will me and lots of people.

That about sums up the possitives of each system.

Nintendo will be the first I buy of the new generation. I haven't been this excited over a Nintendo system since SNES. :)

Good to hear, so I can tell my MS fanboy friend to shut the hell up about the cost being at least $300.

As for next gen Game boy..... is it going to be a portable GC? I mean for all intents and purposes... DS basically is the successor to the GBA.

Holy CRAP !! $200!? **** Sony **** MS!

LONG LIVE NINTENDO!!!!

Actually I have that same feeling, except about Sony. I think that Sony and MS are now playing who has the bigger wang competition. Where as Nintendo is actually trying to make gameplaying more innovative, creative and fun.

Nintendo puts a price on Wii
Thursday 25-May-2006 11:36 AM Yours for a maximum of about 120 quid if reports from Japan are anything to believed

Nintendo's been tight-lipped about how much we can expect to pay for its forthcoming Wii so far, merely stating it'll hit shelves at a price significantly lower than the competition. Now though, it seems the company's revealed that we should be forking out a maximum of around 120 GBP come launch, according to translated reports from Famitsu.com.

Speaking at the company's latest press conference unveiling its financial results, Nintendo revealed that Wii would arrive in Japanese stores with a maximum price tag of 25,000 yen. Whipping out our calculators and doing some quick sums, that roughly translates as 222 USD or 174 euros. By way of comparison, the PS3 will retail for 62,790 yen (558 USD/437 euro) at launch, while the Xbox 360 currently sells at 39,795 yen (277 USD/353 euro).

Obviously that 120 GBP is a direct conversion, but even so, it's looking like Wii's going to be an affordable little console indeed when it launches later this year.

1.) I THINK BOTH 'MS' AND 'SONY' HAVE KNOWN FOR QUITE SOME TIME.......LIKELY BEFORE THE 'REV' WAS REVEALED.......THAT 'NINTENDO' WASN'T GOING TO FOLLOW THEIR PRICEPOINT.

2.) YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, AND THE 'WII' IS REALLY JUST THE 'GC 1.5', WITH A NEW CONTROL SCHEME. DEFINITELY WORTH $200, BUT YOU'D BE INSANE TO THINK IT'S WORTH $400.

THE FUNNY THING IS, OTHER THAN THE NEW CONTROLLER, THE OTHER "NEW" IDEAS FOR THE 'WII' ARE REALLY THINGS THAT GOT SCRAPPED WITH THE 'GC'. I REMEMBER BACK WHEN IT WAS CODENAMED "DOLPHIN", THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT THE ONLINE COMPONENTS, DOWNLOADABLE GAMES, ETC.........AND IT TURNED OUT TO NOT EVEN HAVE ONLINE CAPABILITIES AT ALL.
