JAKE GYLLENHAAL Developing FUN HOME Film Adaptation - Report

Jake Gyllenhaal is developing a film adaptation of Alison Bechdel's autobiographical Fun Home, according to The Stage. Gyllenhaal is reportedly producing the film through his film shingle, Nine Stories Productions.

The Spider-Man: Far From Home actor is reportedly playing Bechdel's father, Bruce, in the adaptation.

The Stage connects this film adaptation to the 2015 Broadway stage production, which was written by Lisa Kron with music by Jeanine Tesori.

I absolutely loved the graphic novel. It’s about Alison bechdel growing up realising she’s a lesbian while at the same time coping with the fact her father was closeted and gay. I haven’t seen the musical yet but I’m sure it will work out better than Cats did

It's great to get new movie musicals based on quality modern shows, instead of just retreading old ones. I'm very excited for this and In the Heights.

Yeah I agree. The classics are great but there’s a great opportunity to show people in areas outside of broadway and the west end some top quality storytelling
