Jake Gyllenhaal is in negotiations to star in sci-fi thriller Source Code for Vendome Pictures and The Mark Gordon Co., reports Variety.

Duncan Jones (Moon) will direct and Mark Gordon will produce with Vendome's CEO Philippe Rousselet and Jordan Wynn. The Summit Entertainment release is scheduled to begin filming during the first quarter of 2010. Jones has stated that his planned follow up to Moon, the futuristic Berlin-based sci-fi film has been put on hold for him to develop this project as his next film.

Source Code centers on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it.

Sounds like a pretty cool concept.

Cool, I like these "Groundhog Day" kind of scenarios.

Farmiga and Monaghan Decipher Source Code

Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) is in negotiations and Michelle Monaghan (upcoming Due Date) is set to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Moon director Duncan Jones' time-travel thriller Source Code.

The Summit Entertainment release centers on a soldier (Gyllenhaal) who, as part of an experimental government program to investigate a terrorist incident, finds himself in the body of an unknown commuter living and reliving a harrowing train bombing until he can find out who is responsible for it.

Farmiga will play a hands-on communications officer controlling Gyllenhaal as he travels through time and space. Monaghan is a woman on the train with whom the man is involved romantically.

The film is scheduled to begin filming in March.

Yea after Moon I am eagerly anticipating Duncan's next films.

This sounds cool, i'll keep my eye on it

Duncan Jones Offers Update on Source Code

The blog Man Made Movies got a big interview with Jones, and offers updates on most of his projects. Legendary editor Paul Hirsch (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Blow Out, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) has been cutting the film, and the process is pretty far along:

I think it is safe to say that the film will be out early next year. My edit is complete, and we are working hard on visual effects, choosing a composer and trying the film out on a few people just to see how it goes over. Lots to do really, but everything is coming together, and I am in the capable hands of Paul “Mount Rushmore” Hirsch!

We haven’t seen any images or footage yet, but when we do, don’t expect to have the trailers give too much away.

We showed a lot early, on Moon. People knew more than they should have just by watching the trailer. I think for a small film like Moon, it was probably the right move, but this film is a little bigger, and I think we can afford to hold our cards a little closer to our chest.

Didn't know that Farmiga was in it, she's great. Can't wait until a trailer pops up.

First pic and a possible release date.
From Collider.
Empire is also reporting in their upcoming issue that the release date for the film is March 11, 2011. Of course, release dates are always subject to change and we don’t known if that March 11th date is only for the UK (where Empire is based) or also for the U.S.

I love Gyllenhaal's suit.

Is this set in the future?

It looks kind of futuristic. I get a Deckerd suit vibe from Gyllenhaalls costume.

The pic is interesting because it doesn't look like a scene from the script.

There's a script? Is it any good?

For a minute there a thought the bearded man was Duncan Jones.
