I'd agree with redhawk, while it is humourous, I certainly wouldn't call this film a comedy. It's actually quite sad and at times unsettling as I think we can all relate to Mavis in the sense that even if you weren't popular in your youth, it's still hard to let go and fully embrace adulthood.
This is definitely a film driven by the central performance and Theron did an amazing job. She continues to be one of the few actresses that does not irritate me and is genuinely brilliant at what she does....and she continues to look absolutely breathtaking in her beauty.
I have to give props to Patton Oswalt as well as I felt that when he shared the screen with Theron, the film was at its best.
