Jenna Dewan and Luke Goss are attached to star in Magdalena, an adaptation of the comic book featuring the holy warrior. Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures, Platinum Studios and Top Cow Productions are behind the project

I'm actually looking forward to this

This is one of the last comic adaptations I ever thought would make it to film. Really surprised actually this is being made into a film, anyone know anything about the actress? I've never heard of her.

^ Jenna Dewan has been in dance movies like Step Up and Take the Lead and horror movies like Tamara and The Grudge 2. She hasn't been in anything major yet though (unless you count Step Up).

^Yep

And she looks like this

Cool. She was the best part of Step Up and I think she will be good. I'm especially happy with the casting of Luke Goss even though I thought he would have been a perfect Kenneth Irons for the Witchblade movie.

The only thing against her is she doesn't have any action roles, but aside from that she's perfect.

Great actress, looks like the character and definitely hot.

So nothing of real substance then, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. Anyone expecting much from this film? I'm in two minds about it, I could see it working, but I can also see it going the way of Underworld.

I enjoyed Underworld, in a guilty pleasure sort of way. :( Certainly better than Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Ultraviolet, Aeon Flux and all those other crappy movies.

It isn't that women can't headline action movies. It's that most action movies they headline are bad as they are made solely to sell on sex appeal.

With that said:

Dewan was really good in Tamara. She did a great job with dual roles of the same character. A shy nerd and a super-hot femme fatale who kills people.

Edit: She's a dancer. This can be very good for actors and actresses in action roles.

Exactly! When ever I hear someone use that argument, I point to Ripley or Sarah Connor.

Wasn't Tamara just a rip off of Carrie?

Sadly for every Sarah Conner or Ripley there's a dozen Tomb Raiders.

I know, but Kill Bill did well at the BO as well.

Maybe we should get Cameron for :ww:

Marc Silvestri Talks Magdelena Casting
For the Magdalena film, Dewan will play Patience, the character who discovers she's part of a line of female warriors descended from Mary Magdalene who serve as protectors of the Catholic Church. Goss will play Kristof, an agent for the secret organization that guards the Magdalena lineage.

"I thought they were great choices," Silvestri said of the casting. "Dewan has a great physical presence. She was actually a dancer in her background before she turned to movies. So she has a very strong physicality about her. And obviously, we've got Luke Goss as another character, and he's got some real steam behind him after playing Prince Nuada in Hellboy 2. And the producer, Gale Anne Hurd -- her credits speak for herself. She's passionate about this genre and has more experience than most people in Hollywood do in transferring this type of stuff to the screen. We couldn't ask for more at this point."

Silvestri, who made his start as a successful artist in the comic book business before helping to found Image Comics and become the CEO of the company's Top Cow imprint, said the success of Wanted has helped revive the idea of a female lead in an action movie. "Obviously, you get someone like [Angelina Jolie] involved in a movie and it becomes a real thing," Silvestri said. "She's great in everything she does, but Wanted was a movie where we really got to see her cut loose. She was a great compliment to [James] McAvoy and [Morgan] Freeman. We're pretty happy with the success of Wanted. And Mark Miller and J.G. Jones are both thrilled. But yeah -- we're off to a good start. We're going to try to really revive our genre now."

I love Magdalena. I love Jenna Dewan. I love this movie :D

Is there a schedualed date for this yet?

^ I get the sneaking suspicion you could be correct, not for it being a bad film, just in finding an audience.
