They should call it John Carter & The Princess of Mars. The sequels could be John Carter & The Warlords of Mars and John Carter & The Gods of Mars.

The titles being as similar as the Harry Potter and Indiana Jones movie's titles, I would be glad with.

Oh, so in Captain America: The First Avenger, the subtitle is referring to someone else?

No.
Captain America is the Title, The First Avenger is the subtitle.
John Carter is the Title, A Princess of Mars is the subtitle.
Star Wars Episode 4 is the title, A New Hope is the subtitle.

More on Matai Shang and the Therns.

Matai Shang (Mark Strong) is the leader of the Therns, mysterious beings believed to be Gods by the other races of Barsoom. No one truly knows if they actually exist or if they are just legends, and, unbeknowst to all, they are a parasitic race that travels the Universe, mining different planets for different reasons.

Matai Shang is a very cerebral and manipulative individual and slowly becomes John Carter's nemesis and the greatest threat in the history of Barsoom. He is pale and bald and uses a long cerimonial robes. He is also taller than any human.

My point is that when the title and the subtitle are both a name and a title of a character, they both typically refer to the same character. If they are two different people, it can sound confusing.

For example, if they were to make a movie about Batman and the Joker and called it Batman: The Clown Prince of Crime, I think people would find that a bit strange.

The colon is what shows you it's a subtitle though. When you see it you should know that the subtitle that follows isn't necessarily meant to mean the same thing as the title. I do get your point though.

There is no right answer to the colon thing. But I'll admit, it does look like John is the princess of Mars though.

There's only one way to make sure there's no confusion. They need to call it John Carter Colon Movie for Theaters.

i hope some concept art leaks. i need to see in what direction they are going.

and i need to see Lynn Collins half naked

I'd settle for Taylor Kitsch half naked, thanks. :p

It's hard to imagine the look of this film because every time I tried to do it, I end up with the illustrations by Frank Frazetta.

So they better hurry up and release some images or concept arts so we get the idea of their unique look they're going with for this film.

I was going to suggest that, lol. :p

The way Frazetta drew it, it may as well have been called A Princ-ASS of Mars.

Kinda uninteresting poster, but, hey, I'm just glad we finally got something. :p

i wish it was a cooler more compelling image of john, but the graphic design and "JCM" looks quite good.

Not bad, but seeing the m there makes me wish they've kept the 'of Mars' for the title.
