I finally broke down and started reading the John Carter trilogy. I am about halfway through the first book and it's actually quite entertaining. I don't awlays like to read stuff this old because of the wordy language but this was really quite tolerable. I can only hope that the movie will be just as fun to watch as it has been so far to read.

It's like an elegant mess. aPoM was Burroughs first novel and, having no training as an author, it was full of semi-pointless plotlines like telepathy preventing lying and interplanetary teleportation and Martian girls laying eggs.

Lucky for him I can suspend disbelief for a decent enough story. I had expected to dislike it since I don't usually read stuff this old, but I found it entertaining enough. I have now read the first two stories ( I bought the trilogy in one volume) and look forward to reading the third thanks to that darn cliffhanger ending at the end of the second.

As far as i know there hasn't been any news of a trailer in the near future.
But given that they're still shooting and this being a pretty big VFX driven 3-d movie , i think the earliest we'll see a trailer could be when Tron Legacy comes out. Unless they have some proof of concept thing like Tron.
THe first first trailer of Tron legacy came out with Alice In Wonderland.

But John Carter comes out december 2012 ( at least my cinema has listed John Carter for a dec 31st 2012 release) .So it could very well that we won't see seeing a trailer till a year from release.

I wonder why they didn't go for the december release but then again maybe Disney doesn't have a big summer movie for 2012
But hey if the movie comes out June 2012 that will means that the first trailer will most likely be attached to Tron Legacy t:

the tron comic con 2008 vfx test was just a concept trailer.it was comic con and it leaked.

I'm looking forward to this, I liek the cast alot. IS this going to be live action or CGI animated like Beowulf. Either way this sounds cool

They might. The creatures and characters will probably all be CG or animatronic except for Carter.

Live-action but it's not a performance captire flick like Avatar . It's shot against blue screens and the characters playing the alien characters are wearing the suits that now are worn when they're doing real time shooting and mo-cap at the same time.

Directors going from animation to live action usually have a rough job making the transition.

This movie is also being converted to 3D. BLECH.

there is a crazy amount of good movies coming out in 2012. let's hope the world ends in december rather than the summer or we'll miss some great movies.

Why is Disney pushing for a conversion on John Carter after spending 200 million on the movie ?
They're shooting POTC 4 in 3d , made Toy Story 3 in 3d and Tron Legacy ( another 200 million movie...) is also designed in 3d.

I always was under the impression that Disney would shoot John Carter in 3d after reports that the budget of JC was 200 million.
Then after i read Vileone's posts i googled and found the article at Slashfilm where Disney was considering to convert this movie.

Surprised that Disney didn't considered from the start.
