John Carter : A Princess of Mars

It seems Disney abandoned one of their sets in Utah. Check it out :)

What? No giant green men runing around? LOL. :p

John Carter of Mars vs. Prometheus?
Walt Disney Pictures made some interesting moves today. The studio pushed back Frankenweenie, produced by Tim Burton, from March 9, 2012 to October 5, 2012. There is no other film scheduled for the new date so far.

Disney has also moved up Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars from June 8, 2012 to that March 9 date. The other movie scheduled for March 9? Ridley Scott's Prometheus.

We'll have to wait and see whether such big projects would go up against each other. June 8, 2012 is now vacant as well, and we expect another big movie to jump to that spot soon.

This is a silly move. From a SUMMMER release to safe March date. Nothing against March, which has proven to be a money making month but it's a bit of a downgrade.

Also, competing against Ridley Scott in the same genre is stupid.

Yeah, Disney might want to rethink this immediately.

It's going to be a tough summer in 2012 so I see the reason but I'm happy since it means we're getting the movie earlier.

Crockett, you do have a point...and Winter 2012 is already packed full with The Hobbit and Superman, among the 'Award' movies..

And also the advantage this movie has is that they is that filming began January and ended July last year so now they have a year of post-production for vfx etc so it's almost a finished product so I'm won't be worried if people are thinking Disney is rushing it.

where as most movies have 6 months, if they haven't started during production..

John Carter should just stay where it is. It's a pretty well known franchise, and pitting against a possible Alien redux....ehhhh.

but sometimes when they have so much time they dont work on the movie until the realese date. when the movie is fininshed they stop.

it depends.

John Carter will be finished by march.

While I'm not sure if this is a wise move, I'm very happy with the decision anyway since this is one of my most anticipated movies of 2012.

It wasn't that, it was because they rushed it into production and during filming they realized the July 10, 2009 date was cutting it real close. They pushed the film back to May 2010 so they wouldn't blow more money to get it finished within a short period of time.

I'm happy with getting it sooner. I've been waiting so long as it is. :(

I started reading the John Carter books around 1972....been waiting for a movie of them ever since...so if I have to choose between it and some other movie, Carter will win.

My mom gave me an old ratty copy of the book when I was little and I must have read that thing 100 times before it fell apart, this movie is like a life long dream...I cant wait.

As for post production, they wrapped principal in July 2010 and its not being released til March 2012, that's like a year and 9 months.

Thank God Fox switched Prometheus to later in the year. Now we dont have to be worried about the two going head to head.

This could be a good date overall because it's AWAY from the clutterfest that is Summer 2012. At the same time, that is also where the fun is at..

I think Disney is trying to strike gold in the same spot Alice in Wonderland did two years ago. Say what you want about the film, it made a ton of money and did exceptionally well for a March release. Studios now realize that movies released during the September-October and January-April spots aren't the kiss of death as previously thought. Market the good films well, and people will see them any month of the year.

I think some studios should take a cue and delay some of their summer 2011 releases for later on in the year or even early 2012. I wouldn't mind seeing films like Captain America in January or April 2012 rather than in a cluttered summer 2011 season.
